F arm Brussels Livestock report Fed steers jump $5 Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending July 22 were: fed cattle, 625; cows, 192; veal calves, 194; sheep and goats, 106; stockers, 936; and pigs, light run. The market at Brussels Livestock saw fed steers and heifers selling $5 higher. Cows sold actively at prices $1 higher. There were 364 steers on offer selling from $95 to $102 to the high of $109.75. Twenty-seven steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan, averaging 1,381 lbs. sold for an average of $99.59 with sales to $109.75. Twenty-five steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira, averaging 1,564 lbs. sold for an average of $96.73 with sales to $108. Ten steers consigned by Bob Rice, Staffa, averaging 1,387 lbs. sold for an average of $99.54 with sales to $107.50. Six steers consigned by Ken Wills, Burgesville, averaging 1,266 lbs. sold for an average of $101.32 with sales to $106.50. Six steers consigned by Gordon Daer, Auburn, averaging 1,230 lbs. sold for an average of $99.58 with sales to $105.50. Thirty-two steers consigned by John DeVries, Burgesville, averaging 1,319 lbs. sold for an average of $95 with sales to $105.50. Two steers consigned by Ross Cormack, Mount Forest, averaging 1,510 lbs. sold for an average of $104.24 with sales to $104.75. Thirteen steers consigned by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc., Woodstock, averaging 1,448 lbs. sold for an average of $104.25. Eleven steers consigned by Kada Farms, Bluevale, averaging 1,329 lbs. sold for an average of $97.88 with sales to $102. Three steers consigned by Dave Matheson, Lislowel, averaging 1,170 lbs. sold for an average of $94.21 with sales to $101.75. There were 239 heifers on offer selling from $95 to $102 to the high of $105. Ten heifers consigned by Maple Ridge Farms, Brussels, averaging 1,170 lbs. sold for an average of $98.41 with sales to $108. Fourteen heifers consigned by Mux Lea Farms, Woodstock, averaging 1,196 lbs. sold for an average of $100.30 with sales to $106.50. Six heifers consigned by John Smuck, Wingham, averaging 1,156 lbs. sold for an average of $99.74 with sales to $105. Four heifers consigned by Ron Jackson, Stratford, averaging 1,170 lbs. sold for an average of $98.16 with sales to $102.25. Nine heifers consigned by Lloyd Wepplcr, Ayton, averaging 1,219 lbs. sold for an average of $94.86 with sales to $101.50. Two heifers consigned by Brent Hargrave, Proton Station, aver­ aging 1,070 lbs. sold for an average of $95.66 with sales to $100. Twelve heifers consigned by Tom Feeney, Dublin, averaging 1,201 lbs. sold for an average of $95.77 with sales to $99.25. There were 192 cows on offer selling from $52 to $73 to the high of $84.50. Two cows consigned by Murray Wilson, Walkerton, aver­ aging 1,285 lbs. sold for an average of $79.09 with sales to $84.50. One cow consigned by R. J. Wilson, Walkerton, weighing 1,360 lbs. sold for $78.75. One cow consigned by Wm. Johnson, Markdale, weighing 1,350 lbs. sold for $77. There were 194 veal on offer selling from $78 to $96.50 to the high of $116.50. One veal consign­ ed by Wayne Gingerich, Zurich, weighing 660 lbs. sold for $116.50. Four veal consigned by Wayne Dumin, Aubum, averaging 728 lbs. sold for an average of $107.89 with sales to $115. Eight veal consigned by Ducharme Farms Ltd., Zurich, sold for an average of $98.53 with sales to $113. Lambs, 50 - 79 lbs., sold $127 to $136; 80 - 94 lbs., $107 to $118; and over 95 lbs., $ 100 to $ 107. Sheep, sold $46 to $74. Goals sold $33 to $170. Stockers: steers, 400 - 499 lbs., sold $110 to $151; 500 - 599 lbs., $99 to $132; 600 - 699 lbs., $110.50 to $120.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $65 to $113.50; and 800 lbs. and over, $100.75 to $114.75. Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., sold $113 to $121; 400 - 599 lbs., $101 to $117; 600 - 699 lbs., $85 to $95; and 700 lbs. and over, $88 to $111.50. Just a reminder— There will be no Issue of The North Huron Citizen, Aug. 3 as the staff is on vacation. The Blyth and Brussels offices will re-open on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Joan Dierolf of Belfast who operates a game farm was one of the exhibitors at the first Taste of Country Food Fair in Blyth this past Saturday. The event provided local industry and producers with an opportunity to educate the consumer about their products. Ms Dierolf tells MPP Paul Klopp and provincial Agriculture Minister Elmer Buchanan some of the facts about raising and marketing pheasants.
