It is important to keep the youth interested and active in the church so we don’t lose them," says Rev. Hobden. "I have a background in youth group work and would like to facil itate the organization of a youth group here, if the young people want it. It will be an organization run by them and I will help out only when needed." This 'leader from behind' style is how Rev. Hobden describes her self. She is there to help the people achieve their objective, but not lead them to it. "They soon realize they can do it themselves," she says. Rev. Hobden says there will be some adjustment to be made by herself and the congregation because she is the first woman min ister in the parish. "It is traditional for the minister's wife to participate in the UCW. We are not sure how my husband could fill the roll," she smiles. Rev. Hobden's husband, Alan Rush, is a seminary student who will continue to take classes this fall. The couple have been married for a year and have most recently resided in Seaforth. "Belgrave is just the right size community. I grew up in the Ottawa valley in a small town with a population of 1,400," says Rev. Hobden. Rev. Hobden did her undergradu ate work at Queen's University and studied for the ministry at Emanuel, both in Toronto. She did an intern ship in Clinton in 1992. Rev.
