Born July 7, 1894 in Grey Twp., Mrs. Cunningham is a well- known local figure. Friends and family gathered to honour her at Huronlea last Thursday. With her, are her surviving children, from left: Bob, Estelle and Ross. E. Cunningham marks 100th It was a momentous occasion on July 7 at Huronlea, Brussels, when family and friends came out to help Elsie Cunningham celebrate her 100th birthday. Elsie Irene Dunbar was bom on July 7, 1894 to the former Sarah Ames and David W. Dunbar at Lot 20, Cone. 8, Grey Twp, just a half a mile west of Ethel. and Bob of Ethel. To this union was bom a family of four, Ross of Brussels, Estelle (Mrs. Stan) Fritz of Waterloo, Doris (Mrs. Ken) MacDonald (deceased) formerly of Cranbrook fF According to her son Bob, Elsie enjoyed a lifetime of excellent health which enabled her to be very active in the community. She has been a life long member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Ethel, where she played the organ for over 50 years. Upon request she still plays piano or organ at Huronlea. Congratulations to Ron Smith and Shelley Bray who were mar­ ried on Saturday at the home of Larry and Janis Bray, RR1, Ethel. A little girl has been added to the Smith clan. She is the first grand­ daughter of Fred and Teuni Smith. Stephanie's parents are Steven and Kim of Brussels. Several people from the commu­ nity attended a Buck and Doe for Barbara Alexander and Steve Bowles on Saturday evening in Atwood. Ball games have begun again on the Ethel Park. There are some in­ house leagues on the go for the younger folks, the Grey Twp. fire­ fighters and their families while a fun ball game and barbecue were held on Sunday afternoon. Polite sources say the game ended in a tie. Friends and relatives held a sur­ prise "Big 50" birthday party Satur­ day evening for Bernice Prescott at her home. The evening was spent socializ­ ing and was topped off with a can­ dlelit birthday cake. Bernice was assisted in blowing out the candles by her grandchildren Christina and Ryan and Evan Befurt and Megan Miners. Those in attendance were from Oakville, Hanover, Blucvalc and Brussels.
