Blyth valedictorian recalls memorable trips
By Christina Black
This is the night all graduates
look forward to (and the teachers
too, I'm sure) ... Good evening and
welcome ladies and gentlemen,
teachers and fellow graduates. It's
an honour to be able to speak to
you tonight on behalf of the
graduating class of 1994.
For those of you who aren't
familiar with our class, we are a
bunch of very sports-minded
people. I don't meant to brag, but
our class has done extremely well
over the years while travelling to
other schools for many sport
events. We have travelled together
numerous times to Hullett P.S. for
cross-country running, to Seaforth
High School for track and field, to
Clinton for volleyball and baseball
tournaments, to Huron Centennial
Public School for soccer tourna
ments and our most recent trip to
the Toronto Skydome to see the
Blue Jays play. Not only did we
win, or come close to winning
while at our sports meets, we also
met many new friends from other
schools which we will be seeing

Class of ’94
The class of 1994 at Blyth Public School held its
graduation ceremony June 27. Members of the graduating
class are, back row, from left: Skye Lantinga, Leanne Bell,
Joanne Josling, Nicole Denomme, Mark Nesbit, Michael
Haggitt, Tim Lantinga, Tim Caldwell, Darryl Bromley, David
Craig, Steven Garnet, Shane Hesch. Front: Pat Hulley,
teacher, Matthew Morrison, Anthony Martellacci, Scott
Bromley, Cappy Onn, Christina Black, April Van
Amersfoort, Erin Roulston, Michael Ansley, Cory Shanon,
Michael Coutney, William Fitzgerald, Principal Al Harrison.
next year at high school.
There have been several
memorable events that have
happened and that will remain with
us (and our teachers) forever. Like
the time when we were playing ball
in P.E. and Mark accidentally hit
Cappy over the head with a
baseball bat. Boy, did he ever feel
bad after doing that!
Or the time when we were
playing volleyball in the gym and
someone hit the ball so hard that
the gym light fell down and broke!
Now, our class has not always
been perfect little angels we appear
to be tonight. I think it's safe to say
our class has been the cause of all
but a few of Mr. Harrison's gray
hairs, not to mention what kind of
effect we have had on the rest of
our teachers throughout our nine
years at Blyth Public School.
I remember one time when a few
of us made hand and footprints out
of mud on the outside wall of our
library which didn't exactly go over
very good with our librarian, who
in turn made us go outside and
wash the wall.
Also there is the time April and
Tim both broke through the ice on
our environmental science trip,
with April dumping the water out
of her boot and screaming with
disgust to find an ugly slimy fish
smiling up at her.
Of course no one will forget the
day we had a supply teacher and
Matthew was asked to answer a
question, but because he is so quiet,
and hesitated to answer the
question, someone spoke up and
said that Matthew couldn't talk.
Matthew remained silent while the
rest of our class agreed and the
teacher replied, "Oh, I'm sorry" and
moved on to another student.
Now, in a class such as ours
where there are three boys by the
name of Mike, a teacher would
NORMALLY have a problem with
all three Mikes replying at the same
time, but oh no, not in our class.
Sometimes it appeared that all three
of them couldn't hear.
Then there are the annoying little
things we do, such as Mike's ever
so famous "You're cool" or Erin
always saying "Oh, Death", or
Shane's most recent, "What cha
doin?"
For sure this class has shared
many great memories and deep
down inside we really are a great
bunch of kids who just like to have
a good time. These and many other
memories will never be forgotten.
They will be with us for the rest of
our lives.
I have had a lot of fun with this
