There was great soccer talent
displayed at the Legion Mosquito
soccer tournament in Kincardine on
Saturday, June 25.
With a select squad of 15 players,
the Mosquito soccer team set out
for Kincardine at 6:45 a.m. under
wet, dreary weather conditions.
Blyth's first game got underway at
9:15 against a strong Goderich
Select team. Blyth fell behind 4-0
in the first half. With a pep talk at
half time, Blyth came out very
strong in the second half. Goderich
notched another but Blyth got a
break on a hand ball in the crease
for a penalty kick which Jeremy
Van Amersfoort took to beat the
keeper to make the final score 5-1.
Blyth’s second game was at 1:15
against Lucknow. Knowing this
team to be of equal calibre, they
were keen to get the game
underway. It took Blyth a while to
get started but once they did, they
couldn't be stopped. Blyth got their
first goal as Van Amersfoort and
John Eric Pardys moved the ball up
A mighty swoosh
Brussels Squirt 82 player Nathan Garland takes a mighty
swing at a pitch from Brian Oldfield, a Squirt 83, when the
two teams went head to head on June 30. The 82s
defeated their hometown opposition in a well-played game.
Brussels Squirts 82s beat 83s
June 27 the two Brussels Squirt
Boys teams squared off in an enter
taining and well-played game.
The 82 team jumped out to a six-
run lead in the first inning when
Ryan Mawhinney, Jason Arm
strong, Mark Kroll, Andrew Gar
land, Joshua Gropp and Joel
Kellington crossed the plate on
the side line and to the middle to
David Ansley, who in turn set up
Melissa Rammeloo, who beat the
keeper at close range. Greg Cullen
and Ansley were responsible for
setting up John Eric for his first of
the game with a beautiful left foot
shot to put Blyth ahead 2-0.
The third was a whole team
effort as Ashley Howson, Julie
Ritchie, Cullen and Ansley outran,
out manoeuvered the opposition to
set up Pardys again for his tricky
left foot shot.
In the second half they continued
to play well to shut down the
opposition. Blyth won 3-0 and
went on to play Clinton for the B
final.
At 3:15 the two teams took to the
field under very wet conditions.
Giving it their all and with good
smart plays, Blyth got their first
goal well into the first half. Van
Amersfoort stepped around a few
players and with a long shot beat
the keeper. Pardys set up Van
Amersfoort for his second of the
three walks, three hits and a hit
batsman.
The 83 team responded with two
runs of their own in the bottom half
of the inning, when Robbie Kerr

game. He again scored unassisted
for a hat trick.
In the second half, Blyth
controlled the game. Pardys and
Van Amersfoort assisted Cullen for
a nice tip in goal. Clinton came
back to get their lone goal of the
game, but Blyth replied as Aaron
Baker, after several goal scoring
chances, finally put one in assisted
by Ansley and Van Amersfoort.
Blyth was awarded the B
championship trophy and each
team member received a medal.
Special mention to Melissa
Rammeloo for good goal keeping,
Jamie Black, Jud Hakkers, and
Tammy Walker for solid defense.
Van Amersfoort, Peter Nonkes, and
Ashley Howson played well as half
backs. Ansley, Elisha Courtney,
Julie Ritchie, Jennifer Godfrey,
Ashley Rammeloo, Baker, Cullen
and Pardys played great
offensively.
Blyth showed great skill, effort
and sportsmanship. Congratulations
team!

soccer begins
The 1994 soccer season for the
Blyth Squirts has begun. They have
a large group of children out to
play this year.
They played a very hard game
against the Clinton Squirts last
Thursday, but came up a little
short. The team played with good

Wallace 10-2
In Pee Wee soccer action
Monday night, Brussels dropped
Wallace 10-2.
The win improved Brussels'
record to four wins and one loss.
Scoring for Brussels was Corey
Newman, with four goals to give
him 12 in the year. Also scoring
were Kirk Baillie with two goals,
David Proulx with two goals, Terry
Nichol with one goal and Mike
Albers with the other goal.
It was Brussels' best effort yet.
The Pee Wee soccer June
schedule finished off with three
games, two wins and one tie.
On June 15 they travelled to
Lucknow to meet an as then
undefeated Lucknow for the first
time this season. As their team had
only 10 players present, Blyth
agreed to play 10 a side. Scoring
opened early on a Mike Courtney
goal from halves Jeff Cowan and
Becky Morrison. This was
followed by a long boot in by
Jennifer Black from a Mike Ansley
throw-in. Later Gowan, the centre
half, notched his own point from a
Greg Blok throw-in.
Lucknow got on the board with
one goal in the second half to finish
the game, 3-1 for Blyth.
Playing the first game against
Goderich B the next week, the team
was not so fortunate, losing by a
score of 4-0, despite some excellent
scoring opportunities by the
forward line and competent defense
by Blok and by Shawna Walker.
The players rebounded, however,
in the last June game with another
3-1 win, this time over Clinton.
Scoring started early in the first
half with a Clinton goal, followed
