Interim ministry ends
Baskets of early summer flowers
decorated the sanctuary of Knox
United Church, Belgrave, when
Rev. Paul Boughton conducted the
last service of his Interim Ministry
on Sunday, June 26.
The gathering songs were We are
God's People and Heaven Came
Down accompanied by Mrs.
George Procter, church organist.
The minister and congregation
were pleasantly surprised when 12
members of the recently confirmed
class accompanied by pianist Mrs.
Anne Spivey, sang We Want to
Pass It On and Let There Be Peace
on Earth. Aaron Barnes, on behalf
of the confirmants, presented Rev.
Paul Boughton with a gift. The
choir choice Take It to the Lord in
Prayer as its anthem.
Rev. Boughton expressed his
gratitude for the past year, stating
his term was not long enough; but
adaption to change was gained with
help. He enumerated many happy
experiences which had added joy to
his sojourn in the Belgrave charge.
He advised "Don't cling to the past
- watch what God will do in the
future, as Jesus said 'I no longer
call you servants but friends'." The
new minister Rev. Mary Jane
Hobden will need co-operation and
support. We are the church. Fear is
the worst enemy. We can overcome
much by looking forward.
A litany of farewell was repeated
responsively. Hymns relative to the
theme of the sermon, "Pastor and
People" were sung.
Offertory stewards were Margie
Gordon and John Nixon.
Following the commissioning
and three-fold Amen, Murray Scott
requested Rev. Paul and Mrs.
Boughton to be seated at the front
of the church. He then extended
gratitude to the minister for his
leadership, quiet willingness to
work and his faith.
Murray thanked Mrs. Boughton
for her support and benefit to all.
John McIntosh, on behalf of the
congregation, presented Rev. and
Mrs. Boughton with tokens of
remembrance.
A bountiful lunch was served in
the church school room to conclude
the service.
Louise Anderson and Linda Campbell of Belgrave look
over the merchandise during the Belgrave Country Fayre
on Saturday afternoon. The event concluded with a
supper.

Squirts battle Wingham

fourth trailing 20-3. Then, in their
at-bat, the boys exploded for seven
runs. Mark Kroll, Andrew Garland,
Joshua Gropp, Joel Kellington,
Matthew Cameron, Patrick Gilkes
and Jim Harrison crossed the plate
on four hits and four walks.
In the fifth, they scored five more
runs when Armstrong, Tyler Bragg,
Kroll, Garland and Gropp crossed
the plate with a home run, three
singles and a walk. Unfortunately,
the Wingham team was able to hold
on for a 21-15 win.
On Thursday, the boys travelled
to Wingham for the rematch. Once
again, they were forced to try and
dry themselves out of a hole. After
Armstrong and Bragg scored in the
first, Wingham scored 12
unanswered runs. Brussels showed
a lot of heart, however, when they
responded with seven runs of their
own. Gilkes, Robbie McKercher,
Armstrong, Bragg, Mite Girl
Nicole Mastnak, Gropp and
Cameron crossed the plate.
Wingham's defense was too
strong, however and held on for a
13-9 win.
The team would like to thank
Nicole and Brittany Kellington for
ably filling the short-handed roster.
