The news from
L. McDonald returns home
It has been a busy week at
Walton Public School. The Grade
2s made some large, beautiful
paper flowers to decorate the
school for Mrs. Wilson's retirement
parly June 11.
On Friday morning the Grade 2
and 3 classes went to the Family
Literacy Festival in Clinton. The
kids were divided into groups and
each group go to see different
events. Some met with author

Pearl McCallum and Tanner
Banks were greeters at Duff's
United Anniversary service on June
12.
When entering the church one
would swear that they had entered a
beautiful flower garden. A lot of
lime had gone into gathering and
arranging the flowers and plants
and birds around the sanctuary.
Glenda Carter, Phyllis Mitchell and
Marge Huethcr provided music
before and during the service.
The choir sang Holy City,
featuring Don McDonald as soloist
for the first verse. Elva Wilbee
accompanied the choir on the
piano.
A quartet, made up of Marion
Godkin, Don McDonald, Gloria
Wilbee, Graeme Craig, sang Just a
Little Talk with Jesus.
Guest speaker, Jim Reed, came to
the front to talk to the children and
told them a story that was told to
him many years ago. It was about a
scorpion on the banks of the River
Jordan, which wanted to get to the
other side but couldn't swim. Il saw
a frog down the way and asked if
the frog would swim him across.
The frog said he wouldn't because

Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson
visited with their daughter and son-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins
of Guelph on Sunday and attended
the baptism of their grandson
Brandon Douglas Cousins at
Dublin Street United Church.
Richard Thompson, others learned
how to write a song with Paul
Drogg. Miyuki from Japan taught
them how to make special hats. At
the media area a group learned how
to put a newspaper together. Il was
a fun morning.
The school also welcomed three
new families - Dawid, Nancy,
Henry, Margareta and Jacob
Guenther, and Tina, Cornelius,
he was afraid the scorpion would
sting him and kill him. The
scorpion told him that he wouldn't
do that because if he did they
would both die.
The frog thought that over and
agreed that it would be the Good
Samaritan way. So the scorpion got
on the back of the frog and half
way there the spider stung him and
they both died. Jim had asked the
story teller what the story was
about. He had said that that was the
Middle East - all trust and love
lost. Someone needs to bring back
that trust and love and the idea of
the Good Samaritan and take the
'sling' out of the scorpion.
The Sunday School led by Donna
McClure and Patty Banks, sang a
round called, 'I Love the
Mountains'. Marilyn McDonald
read scripture and Viola Kirkby
introduced Jim Reed. She
welcomed him and thanked him for
being the guest speaker and then
asked him to tell a little about
himself. Jim told the congregation
that he has been a journalist for 25
years working for major publica
tions, Canadian broadcasting,
Canadian television and more.

and Mrs. Ken Cousins and family,

Wilson's retirement party.
What he has learned in life is
how much he doesn't know. That
was made very clear to him, he
said, when he first went to the Holy
Land in '69. He got the title of the
message from the name of a book
written by his friend, Dr. A.C.
Forrest called. The Unholy Land.
He said that after listening to the
media, he had the impression of
Israel being the underdog, a small,
helpless country. However after
many visits to the land he came to
see Israel as powerful and able to
defend its borders. He began to
study the history of the Holy Land
and came to the realization that his
sources were woefully inadequate.
What he had gotten from his
sources, was a lot of propaganda, a
mythology which became the
truth," he said. Mr. Reed asked
what was truth while admitting that
he didn't have a monopoly on the
truth, he felt he could provide some
facts and information that a lot of
others didn't have.
Then Mr. Reed took the
congregation back in history to the
time of Abraham and Sarah, to
Genesis 12: 11. This was the story
