Province honours resident
Credit to the community
John (Jack) Fischer of Bluevale was honoured in Toronto
on June 7 for his commitment and contribution to the
village of Bluevale and the townships of Turnberry and
Morris.

The residents of Blucvale, Tum-
berry and Morris Townships and
the surrounding communities may
very well have felt or seen the
influences of John Fischer for
almost 50 years, but recently the
Province of Ontario has recognized
his contribution to the community.
Mr. Fischer, or Jack as everyone
knows him, received an Ontario
Senior Achievement Award in
Toronto on June 7, to acknowledge
his efforts.
The award was presented by
Lieutenant-Governor Henry Jack
man, Premier Bob Rae and Minis
ter of Citizenship Elaine Zeimba to
20 of Ontario's 'most remarkable
individuals’.
In his 86th year, Mr. Fischer still
plants the approximately 125 flow
ers around the township office in
Bluevale, the village where he now
resides, and continues to clear the
snow and cut the grass there.
WZ meets
A meeting of the Women's
Institute will be held in the WI Hall
on June 21 at 8 p.m. Guest speaker
Carman Ives will talk on
reflexology. The roll call for the
meeting will be "A health tip to
improve mental or physical well
being."
A limited edition fine porcelain
plate, entitled "Celebrating 100
years”, has been released for sale
on June 1 by the Ontario Women's
Institute. This plate heralds the start
of celebrations to commemorate the
100th anniversary of the Women's
Institute.
Anyone wishing to purchase a
plate is asked to contact either Mrs.
John Roberts at 357-2219 or Mrs.
Jim Hunter at 357-1420.

His community service began in
1943 when he was first elected to
council. In 1952 he became reeve
of Turnberry Township and ad
vanced to warden of Huron County
in 1956.
He served 18 years as the town
ship clerk until 1976.
The list of boards and organiza
tions which have benefitted from
Mr. Fischer's involvement is exten
sive but includes the Wingham and
District Hospital Board (24 years),
Men's Club, Senior Citizen's
Group, Bluevale Activist Club,
Committee for the Frail, Elderly
and Disabled (transportation),
Wheels Away, Bluevale Hall Board
and Community Living Associa
tion.
Along with his group activities,
Mr. Fischer is the caretaker for the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Park, municipal grounds, park and
cemetery, all in Bluevale.

Pletch family holds reunion
The family of the late Herb and
Annie Pletch held their fourth
annual reunion June 12 at the
Belgrave Community Centre with
60 present. A smorgasbord dinner
was enjoyed at noon, with supper al
5 p.m.
Those attending came from
Dorothy Kelly says, "There is no
one who deserves the honour more
than Mr. Fischer. This man is a
great asset to our township and just
does all these things because he
loves to help people. I don't know
what we would do without him."
Mr. Fischer has another achieve
ment of which he can be proud, he
and his wife Margaret recently cel
ebrated their 61st wedding anniver
sary. The couple has three children
and several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
The Fischers' trip to the Parlia
ment Buildings in Toronto for the
award ceremony was made even
more special when their son hired a
limousine for the day.
Mrs. Fischer says, "We were
treated wonderfully with a dinner
and reception. It was a day we will
never forget."
Mr. Fischer was jointly nominat
ed by Tumbcrry and Morris Town
ships.
Victoria B.C., Toronto, Rockwood,

On Wednesday, June 8, Mabel's
Moms met at the home of Mabel
Wheeler. Those present were Julie
Van Camp, Jeanine and Jordan,
