Blyth PeeWee soccer team downs Clinton 4-1
After a convincing 4-1 win over
Wingham in exhibition play, the
Blyth Peewee soccer team opened
regular season play on May 25 at
Clinton. That game saw another 4-1
with two goals by Jeff Cowan, the
centre half, and one each by Mike
Ansley and Sandy Walsh. Sandy
was also crucial in play with close
in pass assists for both Jeff and
Mike's goals.
Other assists went to Christina
Black, April Van Amersfoort, and
Zeb Irving.
The next game, again against
Wingham Celtics, was a close 1-0
loss, but the team rebounded to
take a decisive 5-1 victory over
Goderich A this past Wednesday.
Blyth essentially dominated the
game in both halves, with excellent
defensive work by Greg Blok and
Shawna Walker.
Scoring opened early in the first
half, with goals by April and
Sandy. Sandy again ably assisted
April with another crossing pass
near the net from a Greg Blok

Mike Ansley and Amanda
Howson returned the favour on her
goal with a scries of short passes up
the left side. In the second half,
Mike Ansley scored from a long
ccrtrc pass by Zocy Onn, again
assisted by Amanda. Amanda then
later connected on another pass
from Sandy to score herself.
The last goal came on a penalty
kick, competently taken by centre
half, Mike Courtney.
Twenty Blyth and area teens are
presently signed up for this level of
play. With continued good turn
outs for practices and games, it
should be a good season.

Soccer Bantams lose 1-0
Blyth played host to the Newton
Bantam team on June 1. This was
the first game for the Bantams
under dry conditions. With play
underway, this seemed to be a
much closer game than the
previous.
Newton drew first blood to put
Blyth in a deficit by one goal.
Although Blyth came up with
several good scoring chances in the
first half, the score remained 1-0.
In the second half the play went
both ways with superb talent
displayed by both teams. There was
good sportsmanship shown by both
teams. The score remained 1-0 for
Newton.
