Blyth announces casting Ensemble assembled The cast for Glengarry School Days gathered at The Garage recently to begin rehearsals. The cast includes several local youth performers. Lying in front Artistic Director, Janet Amos has announced the creative and acting ensemble that has been assembled to present the Blyth Festival's 20th Anniversary season of great Canadian theatre. Rehearsals began in Blyth this week for the world premiere of the comic, romantic, and passionate tale of early Canada Glengarry School Days by Governor General Award winning playwright Anne Chislett. Based on the novels of one of Canada's best-loved early writers Ralph Connor, this production is being directed by Janet Amos with set design by Glenn Davidson, costume design by Judy Peyton Ward and lighting design by Lesley Wilkinson. Traditional period music is provided by the Grade 5 and 6 students of Brussels Public School under the direction of Joan Perrie. Appearing in the production are Brenda Devine, Dennis Fitzgerald, Thomas Hauff, Gordon Milroy, Robert Persichini, Cliff Saunders and David Young. Woodall (Clinton), and Naomi Woodall (Clinton). Glengarry School Days, sponsored by National Trust, begins preview performances Wednesday, June 22 and runs in repertory until Saturday, July 30. On June 6 rehearsals begin for Ted Johns' perennial favorite He Won't Come In From The Barn, an agricultural comedy for cynical times including a whole barnyard of live animals. This production is being directed by Paul Thompson with set design by Glenn Davidson, costume design by Judy Peyton Ward and lighting design by Michael Kruse. Featured in He Won't Come In From The Barn are Ted Johns and Janet Amos as Aylmer and Rose Clarke, with Andrew Croft, Dennis Fitzgerald, Thomas Hauff, Gordon Milroy, Robert Persichini, Cliff Saunders and David Young. He Won't (fome In From The Barn, sponsored by Sparling's Propane, previews Tuesday, June 28 and plays in repertory until Friday, Sept. 2. The world premiere of Suzanne Finlay's wild, wacky comedy Bouncing Back is Blyth's third production of the 20th Anniversary season. It will be directed by Terry Tweed with set and costume design by Shawn Kerwin, lighting design by Lesley Wilkinson and music composed by John Roby. Appearing in the production will be Anne Anglin, Brenda Devine and Jerry Franken. Bouncing Back is sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420, Blyth and the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary to Branch 420, Blyth and it previews Tuesday, July 19 and plays in repertory until Saturday, Sept. 3. The fourth production of the 1994 season is W.O. Mitchell's humourous fable about a curling match with the devil, The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon. It will be directed by Ted Johns with set and costume design by Pat Flood and lighting design by Lesley Wilkinson. Appearing in the cast will be Thomas Albrecht, Anne Anglin, Andrew Croft, Dennis Fitzgerald, Jerry Franken, Thomas Hauff, Gordon Milroy, Robert Persichini, Cliff Saunders, and David Young. Fest, plans New Directions The Blyth Festival has announced New Directions, its youth workshops and Young Com­ pany program for the 1994 season. Registration for the youth work­ shops will be held on Wednesday, June 29 and Thursday, June 30 at The Garage, Dinslcy Street in Blyth from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. The program will run from Mon­ day, July 4 to Friday, July 8 with five to eight-year-olds participating from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and the nine to 12-ycar-olds from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost of the program is $15 per child. A performance for the parents will be held on Saturday, July 9. The Young Company program for those 13 years old and up, will begin July 11 and run through Aug. 19. Performances are scheduled for Aug. 16-19 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone interested in a non-pay­ ing position in the Blyth Festival's Young Company should call the Festival administration office at 523-4345 before June 25 and leave their name and number.
