Rutledge assists in redesigning court house Brussels native John Rutledge is Huronview project a major part of part of a joint venture with fellow architect Allan Avis to design reno vations to the Huron County Court House. The cost of the renovations, car ried out under the federal-provin cial infrastructure program, will be $1.7 million with the architects' fee being $126,000. The Huron county firm was the cheapest of three bids for the work. Bill Mickle, reeve of Exeter wor ried about the cost of this project and the renovations of the old Huronview building at a time of government cutbacks. Lyn Murray, county clerk-administrator, pointed out that the county's one-third of the court house costs •will come from its capital reserve fund which has already been set aside. For the the funding comes through the job- sOntario fund. A further $400,000 was set aside for demolition of part of the old Huronview building in the budget for the new Huronview and Huronlea buildings. The remainder will come from extend ing the levy in the budget to pay for Huronview and Huronlea for one additional year. *** Why should councillors have to reveal all their assets to the public but the county warden can't even get the names of those who are drawing welfare in the county, some councillors wondered. Noting a demand from Lambton County that the names of those on welfare be available to the county warden, some councillors won dered if the Huron warden could get access to the names. Lambton noted that the warden has access to any files in the county and there fore should have access to welfare roles. Ms Murray said that seemed to be a case that the warden could probably have had access to the names if no fuss had been made but now that the issue had been raised, the privacy of the welfare recipi ents would likely be protected. Tom Tomes, reeve of Stephen, said he felt what had prompted the Lambton demand was the provinces introduction of new leg islation that will force all success ful candidates after the next municipal election to disclose all their family assets, at the same time as the privacy of welfare recipients is protected. Reeve Mickle told councillors they should be aware of the new ' provisions for disclosure. "I think it is something that those who are interested in running for council this fall should be aware of." he said *»•»«» % ■is<. 1 A Hr ■ w/f I vercoming a outiy The Grade 6 students from Grey Central Public School rehearse for the play Beating Bull O'Brien, in preparation for performances on June 14 at 10:45 a.m. and June 15 at 1:30 p.m. Cast members, from left, Carla Hunt (Tink ’Bully’ O’Brien), Wayne Brubacher (Rocky) and Chad Fischer (Daniel) discuss the resolution to the bully problem.
