Casino a rebuilding of Babel’s tower
By James H. Carne, Pastor
The Missionary Church, Auburn
Utopia has come at last to
Ontario! Or so one would be led to
believe by the media hype
regarding the opening of the
Windsor casino. *
Look at the jobs that have been
created! Look at the new economy
that has come to a depressed city!
Look at the prospect of the
diminishing provincial debt!
Ah! It's at this point that the
creditability problem is created.
If the government is successful in
solving our tax problems by means
of casino gambling, perhaps it
should take a crack at eradicating
war in the world. Someone should
resolve that persistent problem.
One would think that, during the
50 years since the cessation of "the
war to end all wars," the secret of
bringing peace to the nations would
have been discovered. The fact that
the whole world is an armed camp
today suggests that success in this
area has eluded us just as much as
it has in the matter of solving our
fiscal failures.
One gets the feeling that we arc
back to building the tower of
Babel. That, too, was to be a great
success. Why, human intelligence
seems so superior and the pride of
secular man so immense, that
building a tower that would reach
into heaven and allow him to take
over the prerogatives of God
Himself should pose no problem.
The success of that project,
however, was about the same as
modem day efforts to eliminate the
debt and to create a world at peace:
confusion and disillusionment.
The history of Secular
Glenyce and Murray Kelly
Humanism proves the truth of
God's Word: "Unless the Lord
builds the house, they labour in
vain who builds it; unless the Lord
guards the city, the watchman
keeps awake in vain. It is vain for
you to rise up early, to retire late,
to eat the bread of painful labours;
for He gives to His beloved even in
his sleep." Psalm 127: 1, 2.
The former Soviet Union has
learned well that lesson. After 70
years of doing it "their way," the
Soviets are pleading for Christians
to come and instruct their teachers
in regards to teaching the Bible in
their classrooms. Too bad that our
Socialistic, Humanistic government
wouldn't take a page from their
book!
The debt would be paid down
sooner, without all of the
consequences of gambling, if only
they would let God do it His way!

Harold McClinchey of Auburn.

and Kim McCullough of
Holmesville.

maids.

Missionary Church on Sunday,
June 5 were Hank and Janet

Love. Janet's solo was You Too can
Touch the Hem of His Garment, for

Youth pastor Bob Lewis had
scripture from Ezekiel 1: 3-28 as
the basis for the morning message.
The people of Israel had sinned
against God. God had helped them
again and again and now He was
sending a messenger to them so
they would hear God's Word.
To whom are we sent, Pastor
Lewis asked. We are sent to our
own people and often we are afraid
to even talk to our neighbours
about Christ, he said. Often we
suffer ridicule and scorn when we
even mention that people who have
not received Christ will be
spending eternity in a place of
torment and torture in a Christless
eternity. The Word of God is
handed to us and it has the words of
eternal Life for a dead and dying
world, he said.
