and Doug Whitmore of Blyth Printing for the unveiling of 1994 Blyth Festival promotional
poster.
Blyth thanks poster sponsors
The Blyth Festival has
recognized the combined 35 years
of support by two prominent Huron
County businesses, Howick Mutual
Insurance Company and Blyth
Printing Inc., sponsors of the 1994,
20th Anniversary Season poster.
Blyth Printing has been a season
poster sponsor for 20 consecutive
seasons. Howick Mutual Insurance,
a Festival supporter for 10 years,
has been a poster sponsor for five
consecutive seasons.
Recently, Janet Amos, artistic
director and Lynda Lentz,
development co-ordinator of the
Blyth Festival presented Doug
Anderson, president of Howick
Mutual Insurance and Doug
Whitmore, president Blyth Printing
with a mounted copy of the poster
and thanked them for their
generous and extremely loyal
support of the Festival.
The Blyth Festival's 20th
Anniversary Season poster is
currently being widely distributed
throughout southern Ontario and
across the country. It was designed
by Linda McMaster whose
previous work for the Festival
includes the season posters in 1977,
1978 and 1984. The poster features
a striking sepia-toned 1889 photo
of the pupils outside the
Sheppardton School, No. 11. This
Huron County schoolhouse still
stands near Highway 21, on the
road between Nile and
Sheppardton, about 10 kilometres
north of Goderich.
The childs' handwritten
compositions behind the photo are
by Nettie Speers (c. 1893) from her
exercise book, currently in the
Speers Collection at the Toronto
Board of Education Archives. The
two images were scanned into a
computer and enhanced by Stan
Bevington at Coach House
Printing, Toronto.
The Blyth Festival's 20th
Anniversary Season poster, printed
in four colours by Blyth Printing,
may be purchased for $6 each at
the Festival Box Office.
