Koopmans of Orangeville to lead the worship services for Sunday, May 15. After praise on song, reading of the Ten Commandments, and prayer of repentance and forgive ness, members had the opportunity to celebrate in the sacrament of infant baptism as it was administered to Joel Raymond John, son of Gary and Dianne Nonkes of Blyth. The congregation joyfully responded by singing Jesus Loves Me. After reading Deuteronomy 30: 11-18 and Romans 10: 1-13, Rev. Koopmans reminded everyone that only five months ago they had celebrated Christmas when they sang Word of God now in Flesh Appearing. Then on Ascension Day, May 12, they sang Word of God now in Flesh Disappearing. Religion without a relationship is empty, leaving only rules and ideas that don't help your life, he said. God's Word establishes and builds a personal relationship with Him which delights God. Sin alienates a person from God but through Christ a person's relationship is very near to Him. World religions are searching out there for God, a restless search for truth, the great unknown, but you don't have to search for God for He's already on your lips and in your heart, Rev. Koopmans said. Jesus taught that God is personally very close which is shown in love and obedience as the Bible states, "Love God with all your heart, soul and mind and your neighbour as yourself." Ascension doesn't mean the Word of God left but sent the Holy Spirit who applies it even more personally. As Romans 10 states, "If you confess with your lips and believe with your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead then you will be saved." You need a close relationship with Christ. Long distance relationships don't work, they don't grow, mature and develop the way they should and soon you start to question the value of your relationship with God because you feel so alone in your problems. A wonderful comfort for parents who bring a baby to be baptized is knowing God is near and they don't have to invent a scheme to bring Him near. He is near, exclaimed Rev. Koopmans. The service closed by singing For a Closer Walk with God and everyone was invited downstairs for coffee served by Elizabeth De Wit and daughters while the children went to Sunday School. Happy cooks Kitchen drudgery was no problem for these happy volunteers who were kept busy in the kitchen at Duff's United Church, Walton serving up the delicious home cooked food for the annual Country Supper, Sunday. Missionaries hear soloist Tim Harden of Kitchener, a member of the Watchmen quartet sang How rich I Am to a large crowd at Auburn Missionary Church on Sunday. Tim also sang And He said I will Build my Church, the words of which he composed himself while his son Jeffrey composed the music. Elizabeth Bowman, who was a delegate to the 111th conference of the Missionary Church of Canada East, gave an informative report. The theme of the conference was Unity with scripture from Psalm 133 and 134. The church is reaching out to many different nationalities in Canada, she said. Rev. Dennis Bells was elected District Superintendent. Loma Barnes gave testimony of what the Lord has done for her and how the Lord has completely changed her life. Jeffrey Harden sang a solo, O How He Loveth, accompanying himself on the piano. Pastor Carne's scripture was taken from Acts 9: 32-43. His meditation was that miracles do happen today even if there are skeptics who disbelieve. Sunday, May 22 Brian and Ruth Hall of Alberta will be with the congregation. They are leaving this summer for Russia where they will be teaching Bible in the schools. The organization, Co-Mission, has been asked by the government to do this. Tim and Jacqui Harden, also sons Jeffrey and Jeremy, were Sunday visitors with Robert and Elizabeth Bowman and family and Leslie, Dorothy Bolton. Alfred and Marg Harden of Kitchener were Sunday visitors with Dave and Doran Rolston.
