Line dancing classes to start Mr. and Mrs. Dale of London visited on Mother's Day with his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Lamont and with his sister and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cottrill and boys Shawn, Christopher and Matthew. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson visited last weekend with their daughter and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy and girls Christina and Emily of Peterborough. Mrs. Olive Campbell of Belgrave passed away Friday, May 13. Friends and neighbours of this community wish to extend sincere sympathy to all the members of her families, in the loss of a dear mother and grandmother. Beginning Monday, June 6, there will be Line Dancing at the WI Hall in Belgrave. The instructor is Norma Preszcator. Mabel's Moms met at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday, May 11. Those present were Annette Te Raa, Mitchell and Janelie, Alice Yuill and Claren, Shannon Weitendorf, Lisa and Erin, Julie Vail Camp, Jeanine and Jordan, Sherry Taylor and Brandon and Janet Koehler, Derek and Trevor Raymond. Topics discussed were "when" to take your child into emergency and raising children in a changing world. On Thursday evening, May 12 the Belgrave Guides, Brownies and Sparks held their annual closing banquet. Flying up to Guides from Brownies were Jenni Hopf, Michelle Nixon, Courtney Bakker and Kerri Meier. Leaving Guides were Lauren Walker, Becky Logan and Colleen Van Camp. Receiving their pins for first year Sparks were Ellen Procter, Janisa Cloakey, Lisa Weitendorf, Amanda Dorsch, Leanne Elston and Tamara Koehler. It was announced that as of September, there will be two years of Sparks followed by two years of Brownies. A delicious pot luck supper was enjoyed by all. Cameron, Alice, Camerra and Claren Yuill of Belgrave attended the baptism of Rachael Nivins at Hackett Church near Belfast. Rev. John Roberts of Belgrave performed the baptism. Visiting at the home of John and Marie McIntosh this past weekend were their daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Bud Breyely, and children Janel, Jillian and Robert Jr. of Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Roberts and baby Emily Anne of Hamilton spent the weekend with his parents Rev. John and Mrs. Roberts. All attended Calvin-Brick Anniversary on Sunday. Calvin-Brick celebrates 36th Mother and daughter, Karen Brewer and Sue Richmond took over ownership of the Belgrave Variety on May 2. The pair plans to leave the convenience store much as it is because "the customers like what they are used to," says Karen. The one change may be to add a few crafts. Calvin-Brick Church was dressed for Spring and filled to capacity this past Sunday, May 15, to celebrate its 36th anniversary. They were joined by friends from Knox United, the sister church in Belgrave. Many of the founding families attended. Rev. Paul Boughton led the service, an hour of worship expressed through music and the spoken word. The children's choir sang two songs One Being Spirit, a lovely sample of the new United Church hymns. Pianist Mrs. Jessie McGee contributed her music to the morning program. Welcomed with affection was guest speaker, Rev. Peter Tucker and his wife Nancy. He is the past minister of the Belgrave charge and now lives in Elliott Lake. He blessed the congregation with a powerful sermon entitled "Stock Taking" adding up the good things of the past and presenting an optimistic view of the future as well, through Jesus Christ. Commission and the three point "Amen" was sung to close these service, followed by a happy time of visiting. Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Arena bd. gets donation The Belgrave Community Club held its meeting May 6 at the Arena Complex with 22 members present. A short business meeting was conducted at which time it was decided to donate $500 to the arena board. Following the business meeting lost heir and shoot was enjoyed. A social time with coffee and cookies ended the afternoon. The next meeting of the club is to be held June 3 at 1:30 p.m. J. Jacklin wins in euchre Nine tables of euchre were in play at the WI Hall, Belgrave, Wednesday, May 11. Winners were: high lady, June Jacklin; lone hands, Doris Michie; birthday nearest May 24, Marie Merkley; most twos, Agnes Bieman; high man, Kay McCor­ mick (playing as a man); lone hands, Oscar Schefter; birthday nearest May 24, Harvey Edgar; most twos, Kay Rich (playing as a man). There will be another euchre next Wednesday, May 18. E. Wawanosh sees tax hike The ratepayers in East Wawanosh Township will be see­ ing an increase in the tax bill for 1994. Public school supporters will be faced with a 3.38 per cent increase and separate school supporters will see a 2.8 rise. Less than one per cent, .94 per cent, of the total will come from the municipal budget. The increase is due to the rise in the education taxes. The county held the 1993 level. The total budget for the township for the upcoming year was approved for the amount $917,510, at the May 3 meeting. Council agreed to pay a share of the expense for transfer costs for recycling for Auburn. The East Wawanosh share will be 18 per cent; West Wawanosh, 41 per cent and Hullett, 41 per cent. A proposed program for highway improvements was approved at a cost of $345,000. Grants were approved for the Huron Plowmen's Association, $100 and Huron County Road Superintendents Association, $60. The tender from Da-Lee Dust control for the application of calci­ um chloride, at a cost of $158 plus GST was accepted by council. Council authorized an application to the Infrastructure Works pro­ gram for improvements to Potter Bridge, Lots 39,40, Cone. 1.
