Calvin-Brick celebrates 36th
Mother and daughter, Karen Brewer and Sue Richmond
took over ownership of the Belgrave Variety on May 2. The
pair plans to leave the convenience store much as it is
because "the customers like what they are used to," says
Karen. The one change may be to add a few crafts.
Calvin-Brick Church was dressed
for Spring and filled to capacity
this past Sunday, May 15, to
celebrate its 36th anniversary. They
were joined by friends from Knox
United, the sister church in
Belgrave. Many of the founding
families attended.
Rev. Paul Boughton led the
service, an hour of worship
expressed through music and the
spoken word. The children's choir
sang two songs One Being Spirit, a
lovely sample of the new United
Church hymns. Pianist Mrs. Jessie
McGee contributed her music to
the morning program.
Welcomed with affection was
guest speaker, Rev. Peter Tucker
and his wife Nancy. He is the past
minister of the Belgrave charge and
now lives in Elliott Lake. He
blessed the congregation with a
powerful sermon entitled "Stock
Taking" adding up the good things
of the past and presenting an
optimistic view of the future as
