Pastor compares women’s roles over the years
Greg Willits lit the Christ Candle
to open the Sunday morning, April
29 worship at Bluevale United
Church. Rev Banks welcomed all
and reminded all of the yard sale at
the church on May 7 from 8 a.m. -
2 p.m. Also articles for the bale
should be at the church before May
22.
The Prayer of Approach was
followed by the Lord's Prayer. The
choir kept the congregation toe
tapping with their lively rendition
of Take, Take off your Shoes.
The children gathered at the front
of the church during the singing of
the children’s hymn, Saviour Like a
Shepherd Lead us. Rev. Banks told
the children of Jesus tending his
sheep and reminded them that they
are all one of Jesus' sheep and
sometimes do not know what
direction they are going.
Anne Garniss read the Epistle
lesson from John 3: 16-24 and the
gospel lesson from Luke 24: 1-11.
This was followed by the Gloria.
Rev. Banks directed his sermon
on women's issues, comparing the
role of women many years ago
when father was the breadwinner
and the mother tended to all the
household needs, to the role of
women today, some of whom work
away from home and the household
chores are shared by mother and
father. But he stressed that the
church today could not survive
without the participation of women
and their support.
Carl Johnston and Jack Fischer
received the offering and the
service closed with the hymn The
Lord's Prayer and the benediction.
