Pastor compares women’s roles over the years Greg Willits lit the Christ Candle to open the Sunday morning, April 29 worship at Bluevale United Church. Rev Banks welcomed all and reminded all of the yard sale at the church on May 7 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Also articles for the bale should be at the church before May 22. The Prayer of Approach was followed by the Lord's Prayer. The choir kept the congregation toe­ tapping with their lively rendition of Take, Take off your Shoes. The children gathered at the front of the church during the singing of the children’s hymn, Saviour Like a Shepherd Lead us. Rev. Banks told the children of Jesus tending his sheep and reminded them that they are all one of Jesus' sheep and sometimes do not know what direction they are going. Anne Garniss read the Epistle lesson from John 3: 16-24 and the gospel lesson from Luke 24: 1-11. This was followed by the Gloria. Rev. Banks directed his sermon on women's issues, comparing the role of women many years ago when father was the breadwinner and the mother tended to all the household needs, to the role of women today, some of whom work away from home and the household chores are shared by mother and father. But he stressed that the church today could not survive without the participation of women and their support. Carl Johnston and Jack Fischer received the offering and the service closed with the hymn The Lord's Prayer and the benediction. youth Service Guest musician performs Gary Ungarian of Cambridge was the guest musician at Auburn Missionary Church on Sunday, May 8. Mr. Ungarian was a former night club singer and piano player, but when he became a new creation in the Lord he began using his talents to serve Jesus Christ. His- renditions of I'm so Glad Jesus lifted Me and Tell it to the Lord were very uplifting. He also brought the message for Parish plans garage sale the morning, "The Mother Heart of God" with scripture from Proverbs 31: 10-31. In this scripture passage there is a woman of excellence, who makes everyone in her presence feel that they are worthwhile. Her security is in Christ, Mr. Ungarian said. Another is a woman with a servant's heart. The Youth Group held a car wash on Saturday afternoon. There were also several committee meetings. A Prayer Evening was held on Tuesday evening. WI determines new executive The annual meeting of the Bluevale Women's Institute was held recently in the hall. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode with Vera Nicholson conducting the meeting due to the absence of the president, Shirley Skelton. Members were saddened by the news of the death of the late Bert Gamiss, whose wife and sister are active in the Institute. The District Annual meeting at Gorrie was announced and also a banner to be presented at that time. After the minutes and financial statement and business the members enjoyed lunch and a social time. Following that, the annual meeting opened by repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. The roll call was answered by giving suggestions for next year's program and the payment of fees. Etoile Johnston was appointed secretary. Reports of the Standing Committees were given. Jean Mathers gave the report of the nominations committee and officers for the new year will be: past president, Mrs. Norm Skelton; president, Mrs. W.J. Nicholson; first vice president, Mrs. Ralph Darlow; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Harold Johnston; district director, unknown." The choir's anthem was Living for Jesus. The sermon topic was "Commanded to Love". Its message was that real love is sacrificial. Erica Clark spoke on Minute for Missions, describing the details of Camp Menesetung. Next Sunday, May 15 at 11 a.m. is up-beat Christian music by Bill Chaulk and son. The Garage Sale is May 21 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. It will be held in the church.
