1,189 stockers on offer range from $98.50 to $151
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending May 6 were: fed
cattle, 1015; cows, 242; veal
calves, 101; sheep and goats, 105;
stockers, 1,189; and pigs, light run.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw top quality steers and heifers
selling fully steady, heavy and
other classes $2 lower. Cows sold
steady.
There were 636 steers on offer
selling from $95 to $100 to the
high of $115.50. Five steers
consigned by Sellers Farms,
Bluevale, averaging 1426 lbs. sold
for an average of $109.44 with
sales to $115.50. Twenty-nine
steers consigned by Bill Hayden,
Goderich, averaging 1550 lbs. sold,
for an average of $98.33 with sales
to $109. Twenty-four steers
consigned by Gerald Geisel,
Elmira, averaging 1560 lbs. sold
for an average of $95.75 with sales
to $109.
Jr. Farmers install executive
Hank Nyman won the Bill
Armstrong Award for outstanding
leadership during the 1994 annual
banquet of the Huron County
Junior Farmers, held in Holmes
ville on Saturday, April 30.
The Clinton-area man has been
active organizing sports events for
youth and has served as a provin
cial director of the Junior Farmers
organization in Ontario. He is chair
of the Huron Junior Farmer Sports
Committee as well as serving as a
zone representative. His award was
presented in front of more than 45
people who attended the banquet.
The President's Award for
Outstanding New Members of the
Junior Farmers in Huron were
presented to Gwen Van Brakel and
Tim Cumming.
The Broomball Award was
presented this year to Sandra Hunt
and Jerry Zwep.
Huron County's elected represen
tatives at the federal and provincial
levels attended the annual banquet
of the Huron County Junior
Farmers. Paul Klopp, MPP for
Huron, and Paul Steckle, MP for
Huron-Bruce, both donated gifts to
the silent auction held as a
fundraiser during the banquet.
Other gifts were graciously donated
by area businesses, organizations
and individuals.
The Huron County Junior
Farmers installed their executive
for 1994 in a candlelight ceremony
at the April 30 banquet. The
executive consists of Fred Peel,

Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Affairs. Grace was said by Melissa
Logtenburg.
In his president's remarks, Fred
Peel proposed a 4-H special club to
be sponsored by the Junior
Farmers.
The Junior Farmers Association
of Ontario is celebrating its 50th
anniversary this year.
Attending Saturday's banquet
were Provincial President Keith
Emery and Vice-President Murray
Shaw.
