Floral refresher
Flowers add dramatic style to the traditional home.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION
How do you change your
bedroom, refresh and rejuvenate,
without going to the expense of
buying new furniture or making
structural changes?
Redecorate your room around a
beautiful floral print. Classic florals
have a dramatic style, yet are fresh,
warm and inviting.
“I love beautiful prints,
especially the traditional florals,”
says Martha Stewart, entertaining
expert and lifestyle consultant to
Kmart. “They add a vibrancy and
charm to a room.”
Designing around a strong,
visually demanding print is a
challenge, but one that offers great
rewards. You don't need six

can transform your bedroom into a
personal statement of style and
taste.
“For a minimal investment,
accessories can give you maximum
control over a room's atmosphere.
Unfortunately, by the time many
people gel around to adding the
accessories, they have often run out
of interest, energy or money. Our
goal is to help people overcome
whatever obstacles they face,” says
Martha Stewart, entertaining expert
and lifestyle consultant to Kmart.
According to Stewart, almost
anything requiring decorative
fabric - from slipcovers to fabric-
covered boxes and picture frames -
can be made easily and relatively
inexpensively at home. A basically
outfitted sewing box, your
favourite home sewing and crafts
books, glue, and some fabric are all
you need to complete many
interesting projects that will add
significantly to your decor.
“You don't have to be an ace
seamstress or a whiz with a glue
gun. A basic knowledge of sewing
can get professional results,” she
says. “You also don't have to pay
designer prices for top value goods.
You can find many simple
projects, like the covered hat boxes,
flounced slip covers, and the

different co-ordinating, comple

a beautiful, stylish room.
“I don't believe you can have too
much of a good thing,” says
Stewart. “I designed my “Swiss
Garden” bedroom ensemble with
this in mind. It's a pastel floral print
of roses, irises and columbines
overprinted with a white Swiss dot
on a white background.”
In the “Swiss Garden” bedroom,
the print itself is the decorating
theme.
