Palmerston pastor preaches at Blyth CRC
On Sunday, April 7, the Blyth
Christian Reformed Church
welcomed Rev. Jack Westerhof of
Palmerston to preach on "Alive in
Christ".
Rev. Westerhof reminded the
congregation that it is still the
Easter season, where Christians
celebrate the death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ. Then he asked how
many died on the cross with Christ.
According to Paul in Romans 6:
1-14, all who believe in Christ were
also crucified on the cross. Just as a
sheet of paper put between the
pages of a book, whatever happens
to the book happens to the sheet of
paper. Just so, through a union with
Jesus Christ, whatever happened to
Jesus happens to Christians.
Therefore, when He arose on
Easter, we also are alive in Him,
explained Rev. Westerhof. This life
is a gift from God through union
with Christ not through any act.
Belonging to Christ, means being
dead to sin, as it can no longer
make any demands. How can you
get freedom from the power of sin
in our lives, asked Rev. Westerhof.
By counting yourself dead to sin
and seeing yourself connected to
Him. Count on the life of Christ
and don’t allow sin to reign in your
life, your feet, your lips, and your
hands for they belong to Christ.
This can be done through the power
of the Holy Spirit and that is joy
and freedom said Rev. Westerhof.
After singing a song of praise
and worship, Rev. Westerhof led
the congregation in partaking of the
sacrament of Holy Communion.'
This is Christ's way, he explained,
of remembering His death and
resurrection and is an invitation to
join Jesus at the Lord's Supper.
Burkholders greet at United
Blyth United Church was well
attended Sunday, April 17. Greeters
were Bill and Brenda Burkholder.
Ushers were Emily and Karen
Phillips and Terry and Trent
Richmond. Organist was Phyllis
Boak and pianist was Erica Clark.
Call to worship was followed by
the singing of the hymn, "Thine Be
The Glory".
For the children's time, Rev. Jock
Tolmay asked them if they
remembered how they met their
best friend. Perhaps it was in
school or in different ways. Jesus
had many different friends before
and after the resurrection.
The choir sang, "A Little Talk
with Jesus".
Rev. Tolmay delivered a sermon
entitled, "The Power of the
Resurrection".
Barb Richmond read the Minute
for Missions. She told about Naomi
Koko, who arrived in Alberta to
minister among Canadians as a
leader and assistant General
Secretary of the Zimbabwe Council
of Churches. She left behind her
husband and five children.
The congregational prayer and
Lord's Prayer were sung, followed
by the singing of the hymn, "The
Hood that once was Crowned". The
service closed with the choral
response.
National Camping Sunday is next
Sunday, April 24.
The Huron-Perth Presbytery are
asking churches to collect Canadian
Tire money and place it on the

There is a blood donor clinic on

Pastor Carne sings at service
Pastor Carne and Gary Palmer
sang a duet at the morning service
of Auburn Missionary Church on
Sunday, April 17. Their song was
"When Jesus Comes".
Charlie Baechler, who has just
returned from visiting his daughter
who is a missionary in the
Philippines, related his experiences,
some humorous, in that country.
Pastor Carne's message, "A
Changed Life" was from Acts 9:
19-31. Have you ever guessed what
your life will be after accepting
Christ, he asked. We have no idea
what heaven will be like. God can
take the old person and make it into
a new life, and exchanged life.
Some people are ready to give up
the old life like the prodigal son
who returned to his father. Others
should be ready to give up the old
life as they are moody, they destroy
relationships, they get angry over
trivial things, but their pride gets in
the way.
To give over control to the new
life there must be submission,
Pastor Came said. People are often
reluctant to give up and give over.
They often think that they will lose
so much when they accept Christ.
What does one have to lose in
this exchanged life? "We lose
nothing but we gain all in Christ,"
he said.
Brussels UCW enjoys skits
Members and guests of the UCW
met on April 6 in the church
basement. President, Audrey
Cardiff, welcomed everyone. Kathy
Workman and Barb McMillan were
in charge of the worship and
program.
Kathy and Barb presented a skit
"Burned Out" followed by a short
reflection on the skit by Kathy.
Barb led in prayer.
Barb introduced the guest
speaker, Barbara Hicks, who is
administrator of Camp Mene-
setung. Children who go to camp
come from different churches,
different backgrounds and with
different interests. Camp
Menesetung is like a mission field.
The focus is on the positive, rather
than the negative.
At camp Barbara is known as
"Spoony". When hurt people come
to camp, they don't want to listen at
first. By Wednesday they listen a
little and by the end of the week
they are ready to listen about God.
Councillors have to be ready to
listen sometimes instead of talking.
They can't get caught up in just
"Being Busy".
Kathy thanked the speaker and
presented her with flowers.
Betty Graber entertained the
group with a solo. The poem,
"What do women want?" was read
by Barb.
The hymn "Teach me God to
Wonder" was sung. A delicious
lunch was served by Betty
Campbell, Isabelle Wheeler, Joan
Bernard , Rene Richmond and
Audrey Cardiff.
A short business meeting
followed. The Garden Party will be
held on June 5.
Several ladies attended the
London Conference UCW annual
meeting in Stratford on April 11.
18 at Blyth UCW meeting
Blyth UCW met Thursday, April
14 in the church parlour with 18

Candice Howson were in charge of
devotions with "Child" as their
theme. She opened the meeting
with a poem "Echoes of Love"
followed by prayer.
"Can a Little Child like Me" was
sung followed by scripture from
Genesis 1: 26-29. Candice read
poems on children, "What makes
children successful" and "Child
ren's definition of God". Devotions
closed with "Praise Him, Praise
Him".
Susan Howson introduced
Sallianne Patch, who is involved
with the Ark in Brussels. She told
of how they got started and how
they have helped so many young
people in the village. President
Bonnie Shannon thanked her with a
gift. Mrs. Shannon then took
charge of the business and thanked
all who took part today. UCW
Purpose was recited in unison and
roll call answered with scripture
"Child". Marilyn Craig gave the
treasurer’s report and Lenora
Davidson the card report.

Monday, April 18 at 8 p.m. and to
