AValtonThe news from Compiled by Patty Banks Phone 887-6860 Auction team rakes yard case you haven t guessed who the Mystery Neighbour is, it is Christina (McCallum) Achilles, also known as Tennie. She was bom in 1905 and married Roily in 1936. The first person to identify Tennie was Isobelle Shortrecd who used to be her neighbour. Elva Wilbee and Alvin McDonald also guessed correctly. Alvin said his mom used to be Tennie's school teacher. This time the mystery neighbour is somewhat younger. He's between five and 15 years old. This young man was born in Wingham Hospital weighing in at 6 lbs. 13 oz. People said that he looked just like his dad. Al the dear age of two this kid knew that garage work (mechanics) was for him. In fact, he used to sit and watch Dick Marks work in his garage. Why, one day while mom was sleeping, Robbie McClure Alvin and Vera McDonald greeted worshippers at Duff's United Church April 17. Rev. Banks welcomed everyone and then informed them that Rev. Charles Swan will be here April 19 to promote his book, "No Turning Back Now." Robbie McClure started off the the youngster sneaked out and headed to Dick's garage, PJs and all. Dick returned the kid, who happened to be covered in mud, to his mother. Braving cold winds and the threat of snow, five youths and two adults went out Saturday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent's of Londesboro to rake their yard. Patty Banks and Pat Gillis worked alongside Trevor and Shannon Gibbons, Tanner Banks, Michelle Kuntz and Craig Gillis. This was their talent that MaryLou Vincent bought at the auction on April 4. The team will go back later on in May and plant petunias. The next Neighbourly Coffee Hour will be April 21 at 9:15. Everyone is welcome to come and watch session three of the video, 'How to talk so kids will listen.' Linda Steinacker from Stratford will be the guest speaker and will show slides taken while in the Philippines. Phyllis Mitchell, Olene Dennis and Edith Wey attended the London Conference UCW in Stratford April 11 and 12. The conference was called, "Living our Vision". Betty Jane Wylie was the guest speaker and one of her sessions was called, "If you are arrested on suspicion of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" A highlight for many of the women was the musical hour with harpist Eduard Klassen, who was accompanied on the keyboard by his wife, Christine. Another point of interest was that the reports were all presented as skits, which was a fun way to get business taken care of. Phyllis said the food was wonderful and there were between 300 - 400 women there from all over Western Ontario. Phyllis also attended the Huron Tourism Association's fifth annual Brochure Swap in Grand Bend April 14. Rev. Charles Swan returned to Duff's United Church in Walton on Monday night, after 14 years, to visit old friends and introduce his book No Turning Back Now. The book's title is derived from encouraging words Rev. Swan received from his mother when he became discouraged with his theology studies. The book tells of his journeys across many lands and through many challenges. Viola Kirkby displays the book.
