Paul Ross conducted the service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organist. The Invitation to Worship was read alternately followed by prayers from Rev. Ross. Hymn "Jesus Loves Me" was sung. Rev. Ross had conversation with the children and the chorus "Jesus loves the little Children" was sung. This was followed by the hymn "Come Christians, join to Sing". Rev. Ross read scriptures from Acts and John. Hymn "O Jesus I have Promised" was sung. Rev. Ross's sermon was entitled 48 gather for euchre Twelve tables of euchre were in play at the WI Hall, Belgrave, Wednesday evening, April 6. Winners were: high lady, Lillian Appleby; second high, Helen Martin; most lone hands, Agnes Bieman; most twos, Ruby Hanna; high man, Irlma Edgar (playing asL a man); second high, Jim Coultes; most lone hands, Bob Grasby; most twos, Muriel Grummett (playing as a man). The Rev. and Mrs. John Roberts attended the Good Friday service at Dewi Sant United Church, Toronto, where Rev. Roberts was the guest preacher. They then spent the remainder of the Easter weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Mark Miculan and Alexandra of Binbrook and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Roberts and Mrs. Norma Miculan of Hamilton. Over 100 white swans have been seen on a pond at the farm of Wayne Hopper's. There also were Canada geese and some ducks. Jim Lamont is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London. He is wished a speedy recovery. Easter weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson were Mr. and Mrs. Rob Roy, Christine and Emily of Peterborough, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Cousins and Brandon of Guelph, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Ball, Matthew and Alicia, of Hanover, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Anderson, Daniel and Sarah of Goderich. Mabel's Moms met Wednesday, April 6 at the home of Mabel Wheeler. Present were: Lila Procter and Ben, Sherry Taylor and Brandon, Andrea Stevenson, Tyler, and Mathew, Donna Kellington and Brandon, Julie Van Camp, Jeanine and Jordan, Janet Koehler, Derek and Trever Raynard. Mabel served refreshments while the moms visited and the children played. The 1st Belgrave Brownies and Girl Guides held their annual blitz on April 9. The girls spent the morning selling over 300 boxes of cookies. Anyone missed who would like cookies should call Barb Pletch at 357-1967. Saturday dinner guests with Ruth King and Charles, were her family Kathleen and Ken Kelly, Michael, Jeanne and Jonathon King, all of Stratford, and Margaret Higgins and Jean Pattison of Belgrave. Recent visitors with Charles Cook and Ruth were his son Mark Cook and granddaughter Donna from Timmins, his daughter Donna Cook, Terry Wollett and grand­ daughter Kimberley from Downs- view, and son Ernie Cook from Wingham. . "Not Seeing is Believing". The offering was received by Larry Plaetzer and Bob Worsell and for the Sunday School by Joel Arthur and Graham Worsell, then dedicated. Rev. Ross read the Minute For Missions. Hymn, "Lord of the Dance" was sung. Rev. Ross pronounced the Benediction and Amens were sung. Donations for Community Care (layette) project can handed in to the UCW committee members, Grace Cartwright, Ruth Armstrong or Jean Plaetzer. B elgraveThe news from [Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Bull’s-eye Mary Hunter reads poem The Knox United Belgrave UCW met on Thursday evening, March 24 in the schoolroom of the church. President Mary Hunter welcomed everyone and read a poem, "The New Preacher" which had been written by her father-in-law. Two musical numbers sung by Lila Procter and her sister Elaine O'Donnell and accompanied by Lila with her guitar, were enjoyed. Marjory Nixon opened the worship service with prayer, followed by the singing of the hymn "Beneath the Cross of Jesus". Patti Nixon read from scripture the events of Holy Week leading up to Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter. These readings were interspersed with thoughts on the events by Marjory Nixon. The worship service closed with the singing of "Jesus Christ is Risen Today". The offering was received by Wilma Higgins and Mildred Yuill. The guest speaker, Mrs. Dan Armstrong of Lucknow, was introduced by Kay Roberts. She spoke about living in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky and of 4-Hers discuss photography By Jodi Semple The Cranbrook 4-H club met at the hall. Kelly Overholt has joined as youth leader. First on the agenda the members chose a name for the photography club, "The Cranbrook Flashers". They discussed landscapes, taking care of a camera and storing a camera. Everyone had a chance to take the club members' pictures. They also took pictures of landscapes. Cookies and juice were served while members discussed taking animal pictures for the next Ethel residents celebrate Congratulations to Elsie and Cameron Somers April 11 on their 50th anniversary. Happy 49th anniversary to Doris and Archie Jacklin, April 18. WI meets On the afternoon of April 4 the Aubum Women's Institute hosted a meeting at the Aubum Community Hall to plan the District Annual set for May 30 in Belgrave. The president of West Huron District, Betty Archambault presid­ ed with Jean Nethery as secretary. Representatives from five of the six local branches were in attendance. Laurine Macintosh brought an informative report from the board of directors. The Aubum ladies served lunch. Euchre There were seven tables played at the euchre party held Tuesday evening, April 5 at Auburn Community Hall. Winners were: high lady, Lillian Appleby; low lady, Hazel Craig; high man, Ell Lapp; low man, Tom Hallam; novelty prize, Marie Bromley. Next week April 12 will be the last euchre for the season. She described the "Redbird Mission" that they served and the culture, the values and religious belief of the people who live there. Mrs. Armstrong was thanked by Doris Michie and presented with a token of appreciation. During the business period the minutes were read and adopted and the treasurer's report was given. An invitation to attend the Spring Thankoffering of the Brussels UCW on the evening of April 6, in the Brussels United Church was read. It was moved by Barbara Anderson and seconded by Kay Roberts two Easter lilies be purchased for the sanctuary of the church. It was decided to invite Brussels, Blyth and Calvin-Brick United Church Women and the Belgrave Anglican and Presbyterian ladies to the May meeting when Mrs. Chapman of Exeter who has worked with the "Beds for Children" organization will speak. Lunch and a social time was enjoyed following the meeting. John Verwey of RR1 Auburn earned a first place finish at the Provincial Dart Championships held in Toronto from April 1-3. Over 100 people competed for the top eight positions with the qualifiers going to the Nationals in June. Each province will be represented by eight men and eight women. meeting.
