When Marian and Cliff Huffman moved to their new home
at RR1 Londesboro in February, they wanted to bring a
treasured rose bush with them. They dug up the plant,
potted it in a pail and let it sun in a livingroom window until
spring softened the ground for planting. The bush wouldn't
wait. The first bloom opened on Easter weekend.

The Grade 3/4/5s will be
attending the "Slice of Huron"
workshop on the morning of
Thursday, April 14 from 9:30 a.m.
to 11:30. The workshops deal on
the many aspects of farming in
Huron County.
A LOOK BACK IN HISTORY
As part of the Grade 8s history
unit on Louis Riel and The
Rebellion he led in 1885, the class
had carefully planned out the trial
of Louis Riel and reenacted it on
Friday, April 8. They converted the
classroom into a courtroom and
Residents contest reversal
In a rebuttal to the petition pre
sented at McKillop Township
council meeting on March 1, James
Murray defended the position of
the residents of Sideroad 10/11,
requesting the asphalting of the
road under the infrastructure grant
program.
Mr. Murray spoke to council at
the April 5 meeting and offered a
petition with 83 signatures.
The eight-person delegation with
Mr. Murray contended that Side
road 10/11 has more traffic on a
daily basis than does Cone. 12/13,
which was suggested for paving, by
petition, at the earlier meeting.
The final decision is still under
consideration by council.
Several committee representa
tives were chosen.

ship Parks and Community Centre
Board are Jessica Barker, Gwen
Hugill, Heidi McClure, Sharon
McClure, Brian Murray and James
S. Ryan.
The Walton Area Sports Club
representatives are Barbara Durrell,
Rita Bowers, Heidi McClure, Glo
ria Wilbee, Laurie Brubacher and
Donna McClure.
Donald Dalton, Gordon Pryce,
Brenda Hawks, Mary Kreutzwiser,
Trent Wart and Tom Johnston were
appointed to the Winthrop Commu
nity Centre Committee.
Council granted permission for
the Winthrop Community Centre to
apply for a beer and liquor license
for the ball tournament to be held
from May 20-22. All proceeds
from the sale will go to support
minor ball and park maintenance.
The tender received from Pollard
Highway Products for supplying,
delivering and applying liquid cal
appointed people to play the roles
of the judge, who was played by
honorable Rachel Arthur. The clerk
was Kelly Boven. Defence lawyers
were played by Katie MacGregor
and Jeff Johnston and the
prosecuting lawyers were played by
Arnie Cheverie and Darrell Garrits.
Louis Riel was played by Joey
Airdrie.
There was a six member jury and
plenty of witnesses to prosecute or
defend Riel. The jury members
found Riel insane and sentenced
him to go to a mental institution for
evaluation.
In the real trial, Riel was found
guilty of treason and was hanged.

An insurance proposal submitted
by Frank Cowan Co. Ltd. was
accepted at an annual cost of

A registered pygmy goat was
killed by dogs on March 24 on the
farm of Thomas Peckitt, Part Lot
25, Cone. 4. Compensation in the
amount of $200 was awarded to
him.
Council gave Road Superinten
dent Wayne Dolmage authorization
to attend a road school from May
1-4, at a cost of $583.15.
The road account was approved
for payment in the amount of
$15,655.49.
The general account, in the
amount of $113,866.58 was also
approved for payment.
14 th annual
Songfest an
entertaining
evening
The 14th annual Songfest was held
at Londesboro United Church on
Sunday evening, April 10. Those
taking part were Shannon Scott, Soul
Purpose from Hamilton, Common
Bond Gospel Quartette from
Durham, John Jewitt and members
from Clinton Pipe Band, and The
Friendly Four from Hillsbuig.
Master of Ceremonies was Rev.
Paul Ross. Organist and pianist
were Barb Bosman and Andrea
Postma. Elgin and Joy Penfound
prepared the programs.
It was an entertaining evening of
Gospel music.
Seniors dance set for April 20
