BPS news By Cory Smith and Robbie Burkholder Brussels Public School had an extra week off at March Break because of what are called Rae Days. Rae Days are days that teachers had to take without pay. Some students commented on the extra week: "It's good I guess. We should always get two weeks off for March Break." Another student said " awesome!" And yet another student said, "I would rather stay home for the extra week every year." Then we got some teachers' points of view: "It was a greater opportunity to be rested from the winter break and ready for the new term." The caretaker said. "I hac more time to clean the school. ] think that we should always get two weeks off." An assembly was held in the gym last week to give the volleyball arm bars to the winning teams - Red house for the intermediates and White house for the juniors. This week was the school science fair. The winners were Jason Walker, Robbie Burkholder, Jenny Gowing, and Amy Crawford from Grade 8; Mike Cooper, Amy McDougall and Tracy Goodland from Grade 7 and Nathan Garland, Krissy Dilworth, Mark Kroll, and Justin Ruttan from Grade 6. All of the winners from Grades 7 and 8 have an opportunity to participate in the Huron County Science Fair at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Goderich. A special vote of thanks is extended to Rev. Acton, Mr. Hoegy, Mrs. Kellington and Mr. Oldfield for their generous donations of time as judges. Mr. Wanless, co-ordinator of the fair, was extremely pleased with the quality of scientific thought as well as the students' careful preparation of their displays. f Wed 254WINOS Thurs. - SCHNITZEL Fri. - STEAK < SHRIMP OR STEAK S BABY BACK RIBS FRIDAY LUNCH BUFFET $8.05 SATURDAY SPECIAL PORK TENDERLOIN SUNDAY EVENING SMORGASBORD \_________$0.05 Entertainment April 15 & 16 - Late Nite Radio April 22 & 23 - Countdown April 30 - KARAOKE ...........■ 1 11 tables at Majestic euchre Eleven tables of euchre were played at the Majestic Women's Institute card party on April 5. It's official: new bylaws on licencing and keeping dogs in Brussels are now in place and a new dog catcher is on the way. Village councillors passed four bylaws to put in place the new rules and the hiring of Robert Trick as the dog catcher, as well as appoint ing Clinton Animal Hospital as the official pound keeper for the vil lage. The new laws will mean an owner of a dog will face a fme of $15 if he or she doesn't purchase a dog licence before May 1 this year (in future years it will be March 1). Those who have a dog picked up for running at large will face a $50 administration fee plus picking up all pound fees. "I've had a dozen people come to me and say they're not going to pay $50 for a dog," Reeve Gordon said. "They're not going to get the dog back until they do." A new bylaw calls for all dogs to be on a leash or penned when out doors. The bylaws also require the vil lage to pay $95 in pound and dis posal fees to have a dog destroyed.
