Park perform duet People Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor were dinner guests with Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of Clinton on the evening of March 28 to mark the occasion of Bob and Anne Potter's wedding anniversary. Also present were Amanda Avery and Jack and Phyllis Potter. The community wishes Mrs. Lillian Leatherland get well wishes as she has been a patient in Clinton Public Hospital. Knox United and Londesboro United Church worshipped together for the Good Friday's service at Aubum United Church at 10 a.m. Rev. Paul Ross read the scripture with choral response by the choir and congregation after each reading. The choir sang an appropriate anthem and Jane Stryker and Nancy Park favoured with a duet "The Lord's My Shepherd". The highlight was a presentation by Heather Smith of London Conference Office. She gave a monologue on "The Woman at the Cross". She played Mary, the Mother of Jesus. A Good Friday Prayer was given by Rev. Ross and the "Light of World" candle extinguished. The final choral response closed the worship service. Martha Daer wins draw 20 play euchre Five tables were played at the euchre party held at the Commun­ ity Hall Tuesday evening, March 29. Winners were: high lady, Kay Hesselwood; low lady, Ruby Pattison; high man, Frances Clark (playing as a man); low man, Dennis Penfound; novelty, Evelyn Christensen. Euchre is held every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Community delivers baskets Ruth McClinchey welcomed the Walkerbum Club to her home on March 28 at 2 p.m. President Vera Penfound opened the meeting with the reading of two timely poems, "My Thoughts" and "Just about April". Betty Archambault led in prayer. Vera conducted the business meeting and the secretary read the minutes. Mrs. McClinchey gave the treasurer's report. The draw, donated by Ethel Ball, was won by Martha Daer. Betsy Verwey invited the club to her home for the April meeting. She and Betty Archambault will be the lunch convenors. Martha Daer and Shirley Archambault will be responsible for the program. It was decided to have a club donation in April and a plant sale in May. The members decided to donate the quilt they made to the Alzheimer's Association. The program convenors started with a thought provoking poem of Betsy's called "Don't Quit". Betty then conducted two contests. Easter Bingo was won in a tie by Ruth and Vera. The second one, a "Happy Easter" word contest, was also won by Ruth. Several rounds of UNO were played and enjoyed. Grace was offered by Ruth. Lunch was served by the hostess and Shirley and a social half hour enjoyed. Rev. Paul Ross conducted the Easter Service at Knox United Church. Bernice Gross and Nancy Park were organists. The Easter chorus "He is Lord" was sung and the invitation to worship was read alternately, followed by prayers. The Easter hymn "Thine is the Glory" was sung. Rev. Ross had conversation with the children. Christ's candle was lit and the children's chorus was sung. "Jesus Christ is Risen Today" was sung. The senior choir sang the anthem, after which the hymn "He Lives" was sung followed by Rev. Ross' sermon entitled "Do I Know You"? Rev. Ross gave the prayers and The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. Received into the church congregation was Heather Dumin, who has transferred from Siloam United Church, London. The offering was received by Greg Park and Larry Plaetzer and for the Sunday School by Shannon Dunbar and Kevin Millian, then dedicated. Hymn "Rejoice The Lord Is King" was sung. Rev. Ross pronounced the benediction and the singing of Amens concluded the service. Wednesday evening, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., members of Knox United Church met at the church for a special "Visioning Workshop" under the leadership of Bev. Robinson. The members were seated at three tables and lively discussion took place on the various topics presented to them. Each group gave their answers and these were discussed with Bev. For this church it was decided that "Community Outreach" is most important. A committee was formed to look into this concern further. Elva Armstrong thanked Ms Robinson for her assistance and the meeting closed with prayer by Rev. Paul Ross. On Thursday morning the Easter baskets were made up at Knox United Church. The baskets were special "Easter Bunnies" made by Brenda Empey, which should be cherished long after the goodies are gone. Brenda was given a hearty thanks. Several people delivered the baskets to the various places. Maureen Bean and Kay Lapp thanked everyone who contributed, helped prepare or deliver the lovely Easter bunnies. Ushers were Carrie Salverda, Karen Trick, Katie MacGregor and Erin Horbanuik. The choir sang "My Lord, What a Morning'1 and "Open the Gates of the Temple". Second scripture, John 20: 1-18 was read by Brenda Radford. The sermon topic was "Do I Know You?" The Song Fest is at the Church on Sunday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. The third annual Westminster Spring Event is June 7 to 9. Brenda Snell, Neil Elliott and Carl Memer were received into church membership by certificate. Happy Gang Seniors meet The March meeting of Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors was held at the Hall on Wednesday, March 30. The Blyth Swinging Seniors were guests. The meeting began at 12:30 p.m. with a pot luck dinner. Grace was sung. There was a sing-along with Gladys Van Egmond on the accordion. Joan Whyte spoke on her trip to Australia and showed pictures, which was very inter­ esting. The Spring Rally is at Holmesville on April 20. Regi­ stration is at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $3. Friday, Sept. 9 is Seniors Day at 31yth. Cost is $2. Continued on page 11 By Dana Marshall The first meeting of the Aubum Cookie Monsters was held at Helen Lapp’s house on Monday, Feb. 21. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge and the election of officers. Members learned how to measure ingredients properly, then made muffins. While waiting for them to bake they played different games. The meeting closed with the 4-H motto. The second meeting of the Aubum 4-H Cookie Monsters was held at 7 p.m. at Helen Lapp's house on Monday, Feb. 28. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. The roll call was answered with each one saying their favourite kind of muffin. Members divided into two groups and made microwavable and oven-baked brownies with fudge icing. The Club meeting closed with 4H motto. By Dana and Erin Marshall The fourth and fifth meeting of the Aubum Cookie Monsters was "a blast". It was an all day meeting on March 16 which started at 10 a.m. Once everyone was gathered in the kitchen and around the table they discussed to how make a pie shell. After, they split into two groups with one group making cheese loaf and veggie squares, and the other- making pie shells. They made Continued on page 17.
