Brussels People Many families had children and grandchildren visiting over the Easter weekend and while the weather on Sunday left a little to be desired - local churches reported good congregations in attendance. Both the Mennonite and Brussels pastor on Wheels Away board At the inaugural meeting of the board of directors of Wheels Away, Vicky Piltke from Belgrave was elected chair of the North Huron Special Transit Corporation. Other members of the executive area: Rev. Cam McMillan, vice­ chair, Barbara Snowden, treasurer and Ronda Bennett, secretary. Gloria Workman, who has chaired the organization through two challenging years for this relatively new North Huron service will remain on the board as past chair. "One of my responsibilities will be to develop strong committees by recruiting volunteers from the community. I feel confident that the new executive will do a great job over the next year," Ms Workman says. Wheels Away has experienced a 23 per cent growth in ridership in the past year as residents begin to realize the benefits of accessible transportation which can get them where they want to go, even in winter." By Mary Gibbings Huronlea Program Co-ordinator February being a short month, was a very busy month at Huronlea. Despite winter's stormy days, programs at Huronlea still carried on. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped to entertain the residents. Feb. 1, the Residents Council met in the Fitness Room. Many enjoyed the meeting - coffee and goodies were enjoyed as well. Residents enjoyed the TV bingo that is held on Wednesday nights. Many thanks to the Junior Lioness, the Pathfinders and the Youth Group from the Presbyterian Church for helping the residents win bingo. We have had some winners. The tenants from Highland apartments enjoyed bingo as well. Mass is held every Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel. The Glee Club met on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. Pam Yates visits the home every Thursday morning to do a "Beauty Boutique" program in the Craft Room. On Friday it was baking in the craft room in the morning with Cathy and Yvonne, then in the afternoon it's Bingo time with Roy, Helen, and B.J. DeJong in the fitness room. Every Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. it is sing-a-long time in the Chapel. The February birthday party was held in the sitting room. The Londesboro Senior Citizens provided the entertainment and the goodies for the party. Leaders this spring are Darlene Fischer and Ross Hemingway. For the next six weeks members will be studying "Exploring Photo­ graphy". There were 13 members at the Cranbrook Community Centre. The elections for officers took place. They are as follows: president, Crystal Semple; vice- president, Cass Boyd; secretary, Leslie Baillie; treasurer, Darlene Fischer; news reporter, Jodi Semple. This week we studied the parts of a camera and how a camera works. The meeting was closed with the motto, "Leam to Do by Doing". The next meeting will be held Saturday, April 9. Community Centre ($5.00 Late Fee) Coaches needed Coaches meeting - Wed., April 20,7:30 p.m. 2 p.m. Feb. 10 the Valentine Tea was held in the front lobby. Tea and coffee and cookies made in the craft room were enjoyed by all. Don Dunbar entertained on the piano on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Good old lime songs were played and sung. Movie day was held in the sitting room. Thank you B.J., Roy and » Helen for providing the movie for the month. Wednesday, Feb. 23, Dorothy and Harold Steffler entertained in the Sitting Room. Thursday, Feb. 24 Phyllis Mitchell on her violin and her friend on the piano entertained the residents. It is a pleasure to have Dave Goodland helping at Huronlea as a volunteer.
