OMAF adjusts field services
The very rapid rate of change in
the agricultural industry and rural
community is generating many
challenges for the clients the
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural affairs serves and hence for
the Ministry as well. Some of the
most significant factors behind
these challenges are changing
consumer demands, increased
global competition and hence the
need for rapid adoption of new
technology and the broad based
support for an integrated approach
in addressing agriculture and rural
societal needs.
Farmers have said, through an
extensive survey conducted last
year, that they need more
specialized production, financial
information and training to be
competitive. The rural community
is calling for renewal and growth,
developed from within.
Society in general is demanding a
cleaner and more sustainable
environment.
In response to these challenges,
and the Ministry's leadership role in
addressing them, it announced the
following changes to improve
services to farm and rural clients:
• An increased number of field staff
will hold Commodity Advisor
renamed to Rural Community
Advisor, to reflect the Ministry’s
strong commitment to Rural
Development.
• Agricultural Representatives will
take on the additional responsibility
of providing financial advice to
rural businesses in addition to their
general extension, needs
assessment and local program co-
