Fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, the men were more concerned with the safety of the children, who used the building as a clubhouse, than with any danger of the fire spreading from the isolated spot. 13 tables at Rebekah euchre Dedicated goalie There were 13 tables at play at the euchre party, sponsored by Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels following the hot Brussels People The Heart and Stroke Foundation collected $1,258 in the village of Brussels this year. Traffic bad at present site Continued from page 1 The only real concern about the location for the fire hall came in a letter from a neighbouring farmer, who was worried that the sirens would cause problems for the baby chicks. Fire Chief Murray McArter said that with the new beeper sys tem it is possible that the fire alarm might never be used and if it is it would ring just once. Also, he noted that there is no reason the siren couldn't stay downtown. Firefighter John Pennington stressed the problems with the pre sent site saying that the volunteers often can't find a parking space. Also, he said, it has become increasingly harder to get the truck out and around the parked cars. "Even to turn the hall around at the present spot is going to cause problems. It needs to be moved; I don't care where," he said, adding that other municipalities have moved their halls off the main street and it seems to work well. "I think the proposed location is a good place for the fire hall." Reeve Gord Workman said, "It looks like a lot of money to build a fire hall, but I don't suppose there will ever be another grant to help do it. The fire hall is needed. When these guys needed a fire truck they went out and canvassed to get it. Now I would hope they could get a roof over it."
