Hullett PS news Class makes pancakes on Shrove Tuesday By Amy Wilts and Tammy Vincent SHROVE TUESDAY Mrs. Radford's Grade 2/3 class made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. They did some language and math activities using the recipe. Shrove Brussels PS news Magazine sales net $1,719 By Jeremy Clark and Jason Walker This week at Brussels Public School was a dental check. The grades involved were Grades 2, 4, 6, and 8. Most students did not have serious problems with their mouths. Also this week a number of students were involved in public speaking. We congratulate those who participated and those who will represent Brussels Public School at the Legion on Wednesday, March 2. They include: Justin Ruttan, Nicole Blyth Council briefs Clubs divide grant funds Blyth council distributed the 1993 recreation grant at its Feb. 24 meeting. The $5,000 will be divided as follows: Blyth Hall, $2,500; Blyth Lions, $400; Blyth Minor Hockey, $700; Blyth Minor Ball, $700 and Blyth Figure Skating Club, $700. Councillor Shirley Fyfe advised council that consideration is being given to quotes supplied by Fisher Glass to replace a broken window and a window with a broken seal in the link portion of Memorial Hall.♦♦♦ The 1994 chairperson for the Tuesday falls before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. BUSY LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS February has been such a busy month for Mrs. Bosman's Grade Bernard, Tricia Teeft, Amy Crawford, Mandy Sellers, Amber Ruttan. Four of these students repre­ sented BPS in 1993 as well. Magazine sales kicked off Feb. 3 at 2:31 p.m. and ended Feb. 21 at 3:30 p.m. Total school profit was $1,719. For every magazine a student sold he/she received a bingo card. Every day, numbers were called over the announcements. There were different prizes to be won and Blyth and District Community Centre board is Neil Saiverda.♦♦♦ Council was advised that the Landfill Site Committee will meet quarterly on the fourth Tuesday, with the next meeting being April 26.**♦ Francis Veilleix of Bluewater Recycling has advised that the paper ads are ready for recycling and the promotion material and blue boxes are ready for distribu­ tion. The boxes will delivered to the village shed. Blyth cubs will deliver the boxes 1/2 class. They have had two birthdays to celebrate - Jessica Wheeler turned seven on Feb. 13 and Matt Patterson had his eighth birthday on Feb. 18. Happy birthday to both of these friends. The class finished its different ways to win them. An example of this is if you get four comers blanked out on your bingo card you would win either a puzzle, drinking cup, or a stuffed dog. Winners so far are: Krissy Dilworth, Cassie Bootzin, Sherry Therien, Christine Yoon, Patrick Gilkes, Cheryl Cloakey, Nicole Lowe, Jason Crawford. Brussels students had Wednesday off this week due to the snow, wind and cold temperatures. We are positive that many students enjoyed this day of the week. by the end of March. Tentative starting date is Friday, April 8. Blyth was asked by the Canadian Wildlife Federation to declare April 10-16 as National Wildlife Week and encourage area groups and organizations to focus on biodiver­ sity and conservation of wildlife habitats in the community. Reeve Dave Lee is contacting the people involved with the Blyth Brooke rehabilitation project to dis­ cuss activities that may correspond with this.*♦* Valentine/February unit and has been concentrating on the Olympics. The luge, mogul skiing and figure skating are favourite sports. They are looking forward to Heritage Day on Feb. 25 when they will entertain their grandparents and enjoy the "Ronno" concert with the rest of the school. THINKING DAY On Tuesday, Feb. 22 it was Thinking Day and it was also Lord Baden Powell's birthday. Cubs, Scouts, Beavers, Brownies, Guides, Walton PS news Students play in Winter Olympics Reporters Tammy Shpak and Laura Hood, Grade 3 Feb. 21 was Heritage Day and students talked about what countries families came from. On Valentine's Day there was a Box Social. The girls brought in a snack to share in a decorated box or bag and the boys chose which box they wanted to share. It was fun. We also made some Valentines. ROCK N' ROLL The Grade 8 class of Hullett is involved in four sessions of curling. Thursday afternoons the class gets bused to Vanastra curling rink, where they're divided into eight different teams. This is part of their physical education program. The Grade 8 class would like to say thanks to the Vanastra curling club for donating the ice time. On Feb. 18 we had Walton Winter Olympics outside. We made snow sculptures, had bobsled races on magic carpets, an oven mitt and spoon race, carving snow, and some other fun activities such as hockey. On Feb. 15 we had Pancake Day. Mrs. Scott and Mr. Brubacher made the pancakes and we had maple syrup with them. DAY TRIPS Looking for local heroes There are so many people out there who do so much to improve their community.
