Top scouts Tom Bailey, the Huron District Commissioner presents Chief Scout awards to Chris Knox and Shawn Clark at the annual banquet in Blyth on Thursday, Feb. 24. These were the first two Top Scout awards presented in Bluewater Region this year. Employment & Immigration Canada funds Literacy Fest. Employment and Immigration Canada in Goderich has set aside funding to support the Family Literacy Festival which is scheduled for June 6-10 at the Fairgrounds in Clinton. The Festival will celebrate Family and Literacy in recognition of 1994, International Year of the Family with activities for people of all ages. Celebrity readers, crafts, displays and drama and music presentations will take place from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. There will be two evenings of performances on Wednesday and Thursday. There is no charge to the general public for daytime programs. There will be a small fee for the evening performances. The Festival is a unique venture organized by many community and educational groups including the Huron Board of Education, the Huron-Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board, Conestoga College, the Huron County Library System, the Huron-Perth Literacy Committee, and Employment and Immigration Canada. Jeff received the award at the annual banquet on Thursday night in Blyth. Making the presentation was Advisor Steve Root. Little damage in Brussels barn fire A chicken bam fire at the north end of Brussels at 8:30 Saturday evening amounted to little as vol­ unteers firefighters extinguished the blaze in less than half an hour. Fire Chief Murray McArter says the fire appears to have started on the third floor of the building, which was owned by Carl Miners of RR2, Bluevale. It took just 20 minutes to get things under control, he said and firefighters remained at the scene for another hour and a half to clean up. The cause is stil- lundetermined and the fire is under investigation, Mr. McArter said. There was no estimate of dam­ age.
