Brussels PS news Students see ‘great’ show Students go to Wingham By Jenny Gowing and Heather Douma Thursday, Feb. 10 the Grade 7 and 8's went to the Sounds and Lights show at the Centre in the Square. The overall opinion of the show was great. We asked a few people what they thought about it, and here are their comments: Jeremy Clark said, "My favourite pieces were the Superman theme song and the Star Wars piece. The lighting was excellent!" Lisa Gilkes said, "My favourite song was Barcarolle from Tales of HuUett PS news Boys win tournee By Shannon Scott, Tammy Vincent and Amy Wilts On Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Central Region Volleyball Tournament held at CHSS, the HuUett Central boys spiked Gold as they captured the championship, winning five straight matches against Blyth, Seaforth, Huron Centennial, Clinton and Vanastra Public Schools. Following are the team members: Chris Dyck, Andrew Dyck, Daniel Haak, Jason Harkes, Zeb Irving, Jeff Cowan, Joey Airdrie, Darrell Gerrits, Lukas Bolinger, Kelly Boven, Kyle Anderson and Mathew Armstrong. Thanks go to the coach, Mr. Livermore who spent countless hours of practising at noon hour and after school for a major reason of the team's successes. The Hullett Senior girls team laced second at the tournament. Members of the team were: Debbie Hoggart, Amanda Anderson, Amee Cheverie, Mandy Hanna, Amy Wilts, Katie MacGregor, Rachel Arthur, Christine Lapp, Stephanie Oliver, Tara James, Katie Snell and Carey Elliott. The board agreed to remain at 16 trustees. ***** The possibility of expanding Walton Public School to include Grades 4 and 5 was discussed by the board. The parents affected by the change will be notified to invite Hoffmann by Offenbach because of the interesting xylophone part." Jenny McKercher said, "I also liked Barcarolle and the lighting was very realistic." We have started the Magazine Fund Raising Campaign once again. So far we have raised $2,483. We use the money from this fundraising for field trips, special school projects and band supplies and repairs. Thanks for all your support! The volleyball season has come to an end. In junior volleyball the White team won and in the Oliver and Michelle VanLoo who acted as scorekeepers for the day. PAPIER MACHE By Tonya Drost and Amanda Haak Papier Mach€ is a French word that means chewed paper. To make papier mach6 you need flour and water mixed and s trips of paper. The Grade 2 class is making bowls and figures. This is a way of recycling newspaper. SOUNDS AND LIGHTS On Thursday, Feb. 10 the Hullett Central Concert Band will be travelling to Kitchener-Waterloo, to see and hear the production "Sounds and Lights" with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra at the Centre in the Square. The orchestra will be playing songs from "Star Trek", "Star Wars", "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and other great music. There will be a spectacular light show that will accentuate and illustrate the music. After they will stop for lunch at McDonald's and be back in time for buses. Students have been listening to the music and learning about the orchestra so they will enjoy the concert. It should be a wonderful time. their comments and suggestions. ***** Superintendent of Personnel Gino Giannandrea told the board the destreaming of Grade 9 has gone better than anyone expected. "There have been a few prob­ lems," he says, "mainly with the basic level students." These are being dealt with as they arise. "Overall, the program is going very well so far." There are no plans to destream Grade 10, he says. intermediate volleyball the Red team won. Congratulations to all teams participating. Next week we are starting floor hockey. Grades 4/5 to 8 are really getting involved in the Olympics. We are studying the events, countries and athletes. Mrs. Uhler, Mr. Teall and Mr. Wanless's classes are participating in the Junior Olympics. The date has tentatively been set for Feb. 18. Mr. Wanless, the senior science teacher and 6/7 homeroom teacher, has recently had surgery on his right eye. He took last week off and is now fully recovered and is back at BPS. During his absence Mrs. McDonald was supply teaching for his classes. February is an extremely busy month at BPS with speeches and the upcoming report cards. We- hope you have a very happy Valentine's Day. Looking for local heroes There are so many people out there who do so much to improve their community. Now you have a chance to say thanks.
