HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1994-02-16, Page 17GEERTJE GROBBINK A former resident of Walton, Geertje Grobbink passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 1994 at Braemar Nursing Home, Wingham. She was 86. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernardus Grobbink who pre­ deceased her in 1982. She was the loving mother or Catherine Grob­ bink of Toronto, Marianna and John Ryan of Walton, Emma and Ted Vander Wouden of Bayfield and Henry and Mary Ann Grobbink of Walton. He was the loved grandmother of 17 grandchildren. He was prede­ ceased by six brothers and one sis­ ter. Visitation was held at Bctt Funer­ al Home, Brussels on Monday, Feb. 14. Funeral Mass was cele­ brated at 11 a.m., Feb. 15 from St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Brussels. Father Joe Nevett offici­ ated at the service. Pallbearers were Stephen Ryan, W. Wawanosh sets meeting date Dungannon residents will be invited to attend a meeting at the Senior Citizens' Centre on March 10 to discuss the uses for the infras­ tructure funding provided by the provincial and federal govern­ ments. On Feb. 1, West Wawanosh council set the meeting to deter­ mine if there was agreement from the residents to use the funding to install drain/storm sewers in the hamlet. The municipality will have to contribute one third of the cost of the project. Total funding available from the government is $66,159. HARLEY CRAWFORD Harley Crawford, a well-known local lawyer passed away following a brief illness on Friday, Feb. 4, 1994 at Wingham and District Hos­ pital. He was 88. A son of the late John Thomas Crawford and his wife Elizabeth Tales, Mr. Crawford was bom in Chingacousy Tsp., Peel County on Feb. 11, 1905. He received his edu­ cation from Osgoode Hall Law School. In 1930 he began his law practice in Wingham, having pur­ chased the practice of Richard Van­ stone. On May 30, 1931 he married the former Bernice Brown, who predeceased him in 1985. A former mayor of Wingham, Mr. Crawford was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1943. He was a charter member of the Wingham Lions Club, helped found the Wingham Tennis and Golf Clubs, for applications for rezoning and minor variances at $1,000 and $510 respectively. The council will invite tenders from contractors to supply and install sufficient insulation in the ceiling of the Works Garage to pro­ vide an R40 factor. Council approved the plan to dis­ continue the practice of collecting a Federation of Agriculture fee through a special mill rate on the Collector's Roll. The general accounts, totalling $25,422.02, were approved for pay­ ment. Council accepted the 1994 bud­ gets from the Lucknow District Fire Department, the Blyth Fire Department and the Blyth and Dis­ trict Community Centre. was a member of the Masonic Order and of the Wingham Bridge Club. Mr. Crawford was a partner in Crawford, Mill and Davies Law Office. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters Mary (Mrs. J.R. Lloyd) of Thornhill, Carol (Mrs. David Blair) of London, Sally (Mrs. Peter Woodcock) of Toronto and his son the Reverend John Crawford and his wife Margaret of Saskatoon. Eight grand and great- grandchil­ dren also survive him. Rev. J. Rea Grant officiated at the funeral services held on Mon­ day, Feb. 7 at the McBumey Funer­ al Home, Wingham.
