Business Administrator, Janet Baird-Jackson and Ralph Ware ham, Principal of Seaforth District High School made a presentation to the board at the Feb. 7 meeting concerning "Picture Tel". "Picture Tel" is a new distance education system which integrates audio and visual interaction over great distances. Mr. Wareham says the system would allow students in several schools to benefit from a guest speaker at a central location. The students would watch and hear the speaker via television and would be able to ask questions of the person through the same system at his/her end. "It would allow teachers to take part in professional development training sessions without travelling great distances," he says, "as well as providing students with a wider range of courses that would not be feasible for small classes in indi vidual schools." The $4,500 cost per class is slightly less than the cost of a teacher for the course. Mr. Wareham says there is also the possibility that Conestoga Col lege could utilize the system to pro vide more courses at distance campuses. Paul Carroll, director of educa tion, says the board is already in discussion with companies who could use the system and may want to purchase the service, thereby 15 on Cone. 7 North, 6 South, 6 North and 5 South of Morris Town ship.
