Mrs. Coultes attended a meeting of the National Consultation of United Church Women which was hosted by the Bermuda Presbyterial. This Presbyterial is a part of the maritime conference of the United Church of Canada. Twelve conference presidents from across Canada accompanied by seven of their husbands were shown around the island by various members of the Methodist Church of Bermuda. On Monday evening, over 100 women attended a rally where the conference presidents entertained and told of the work of United Church Women in Canada. This was a history making event, as it was the first time any group from the United Church of Canada had visited the island to give encouragement to the people of Bermuda. The guests were hosted in homes of various members and were shown an extremely warm welcome by all. Mrs. Coultes is the president elect of the National Consultation. Euchre Six tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the Belgrave WI Hall, Wednesday, Feb. 2. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Lois Chamney; second high, Mrs. Ruth Johnston; most twos, Mrs. Edythe Coultes; low lady, Mrs. Dorothy Logan; high man, John King; second high, Jack Taylor; most twos, George Michie; low man, Bob Grasby. There will be euchre Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. Breakfast Club to meet March 5 The Belgrave Men's Breakfast Club met Saturday morning, Feb. 5 in Knox United Church schoolroom with 19 men present. A pancake breakfast was served and the guest speaker was Dr. Stewart Anderson of Wingham. Their next meeting will be Auburn Horticultural Society determines upcoming programs The Horticultural Society's annual meeting was held Monday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. Dessert and beverage was served by the executive. Anne Vincent opened the meeting and read the slate of officers as follows: president, Sherri Cartwright; second vice, Mary Stoll; acting secretary, Anne Vincent; assistant secretary, Marion Haggitt; treasurer, Ell Lapp; pianist, Marjorie McDougall; telephone committee, Maureen Bean, Kay Lapp and Frances Clark. Directors to retire in 1995 are Maxine Seers, Teresa Roetcisoen- der, Mary Stroll, Jane Giousher and Eunice Arthur. Directors to retire in 1996 are Dorothy Schneider, Betsy Verwey, Maureen Bean, Tena Empey and Erma Cartwright. Programs are set for March 14, May 9, June 13, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14. The society will again be caring for flower beds and flower boxes throughout the village as well as placing park benches for everyone to use to enjoy the village. Work will also continue on the hillside ground cover at the west end of Auburn. Parish selects officers Belgrave Knox United annual meeting was held Jan. 30 after lunch, following the morning service. Rev. Paul Boughton opened the meeting with scriptures and Murray Scott chairman, conducted the meeting. Sheila Nixon was elected secretary. The minutes of 1993 were read followed by reports from the treasurer, Lome Campbell, and the auditor, Elizabeth Procter. Brian Potter, chairman of the board of stewards presented the 1994 budget. The members moved to accept the budget and the Mission and Service Fund allotment. Election for Officers was held. Elected to the Session were John Campbell, Ken Procter and Mary Hunter. The Stewards elected were Brian Potter, Donald R. Procter and Donald G. Procter. George Michie and Ross Procter were elected trustees. Ushers and Offering Stewards and Ministry and Personnel Committee remained the same. Elected to the Christian Education Committee were Melanie Pletch and Anne Spivey. Elizabeth Procter was elected for the Manse Committee and the 16 attend UCW meeting The Evening Unit of the UCW met on Tuesday evening, Feb. 1 in the church schoolroom with Wilma Higgins and Irene Lamont as hostess. Sixteen members answered the roll call. Barbara Anderson welcomed everyone and opened the meeting with the poem, "Laugh a Little, Sing a Little". Mildred Yuill had charge of the worship on the theme "Adventurous Religion". She opened with prayer and the scripture reading from Proverbs 22, verses one, two, eight and nine and Mark 8, verses 27 - 38 was read by Laura Johnston. Saturday, March 5. "Mabel's Moms", met at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Present were Andrea Stevenson, Mathew and Tyler, Waneta Leishman, Melissa and Alice Yuill with her son Claren. Tickets were drawn and Jean Plaetzer and Jane Giousher won pots of tulips. The meeting then adjourned. Abu can lose a lot more than your licence drinking and driving. The resignation of Olive Bolt, as members of the Memorial Fund Committee was accepted with thanks. Loma Johnston was elected for that position. George Michie gave the Observer report. Mike Cottrill was elected to the position of Observer representative. The Country Fayre date was set for June 25. The motion was made to review and update the church role. Outside groups wishing to use the church are to contact Linda Campbell. John McIntosh, on behalf of the congregation, thanked Rev. Paul Boughton and his wife for the leadership during the year of transition. Rev. Boughton responded, encouraging the group to use the Steering Committee recommendations. He expressed thanks to those present and to Rev. John Roberts. Members extended appreciation to other members who offered their services to the church during 1993. The next annual meeting will be Sunday, Jan. 29, 1995. Meeting was adjourned and Rev. Boughton closed with prayer. Hymns "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "Through all the Changing Scenes of Life" were sung. Mildred read the meditation and the offering was received and dedicated. Mildred closed the worship service with prayer. Barbara Anderson conducted the business. She announced the general meeting of UCW, Feb. 10 at the church with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m., with Ruth Alton speaking on her trip to Japan. There will be lunch after church, Feb. 20 with Mabel Wheeler's group in charge. Meet the Moderator Rev. Stanley McKay at North Street United Church, Goderich, Feb. 10. The March meeting will be held at the home of Muriel Coultes with Barbara Anderson’s group in charge of lunch, Mabel Wheeler's group in charge of worship and Loma Cook's group, the program. Roll call for March will be visits to sick and shut-ins. It was decided to give a donation to the Son-Shine singers. Louise Bosman was in charge of the program. She opened by asking everyone to think on the statement, "Why am I Here". She told the life of Esther and showed a video on the "Story of Esther". Louise closed the program by reading from Philippians, saying God was always at Esther's side to guide her, as he does us. A social time followed with lunch served by Doris Michie and Sheila Nixon. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9,1994. PAGE 13 New councillor Keith Johnston of Cone. 1, Morris Twp. became the new councillor after the seat was vacated by Wayne Riley. Mr. Johnston has lived in Morris Twp. all his life and along with wife Bonnie and son David they own 720 acres. He says he has the time and energy to devote to the position and believes the north half of the township should be represented on council. Clerk-Treasurer Nancy Michie helps with the paper signing. Ora Bruce CUPID’S hosts WMS The Women's Missionary Society met at the home of Mrs. Ora Bruce on Monday, Jan. 31. Mrs. Alice Nicholson opened with the call to worship. The hymn "Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love", was read in unison. Mrs. Margaret Siertsema read the scripture and Mrs. Nicholson led in prayer. Roll call was answered by a Bible verse on "Love". A report n the annual meeting was given. The synodical meeting will be held in Wingham on April 19, 20. Mrs. Siertsema gave the secretary's report and Mrs. Ivy Cloakey gave the financial report. Mrs. Siertsema read a poem, "Small Boy's Dilemma". Mrs. Nicholson read a story from the Glad Tidings written by June Stevens entitled "Written in Love". "All Things Bright and Beauti­ ful", was read and Mrs. Nicholson closed the meeting with a poem, "Reach Out". The hostess served lunch and asocial time was enjoyed.
