Jean Plaetzer hosts UCW
Jean Plaetzer, Blyth, welcomed
the Auburn UCW to her home on
Monday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. There
was an excellent attendance of
members and guests. Shortly after
arriving various members were
gathered into small groups then
taken to the family room down
stairs. There they were given
appropriate clothing to wear and
told whom they would represent in
a play. The actors had no words to
say but were to enact their
personage.
A "bus" had been set up in the far
end of the room and Marjorie
McDougall was the capable driver.
Joyce Bean was the reader and
Shirley Archambault read several
scripture passages. Maureen Bean
was the stage manager. There were
numerous characters but the main
ones were Darlene Empey, a young
teenager and her mother Marilyn
Verbeek. Ethel Ball was a poor old
lady whose granddaughter, por
trayed by Nancy Park, was quite ill.
The story hinged on a $50 bill that

Rev. Paul Ross conducted the
service at Knox United Church and
Nancy Park was organist. There
was hymn-sing followed by the
Invitation to ""Worship read
alternately. Rev. Ross gave the
Prayers of Approach and
Confession and Assurance of God's
Pardon. Hymn, "The Church is
wherever God's People are" was
sung. Scriptures were read by. Rev.
Ross. A statement of Faith was
read in unison. Hymn "There's a
Quiet Understanding" was sung.
Rev. Ross's sermon was
"Snapshots of Our Faith" Rev. Ross
gave Prayers to God and the Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison.
Offering was received by Peter
Verbeek and Bob Worsell and
dedicated in song. Hymn "Thy
Hand O God, Has Guided" was
sung.
Rev. Ross pronounced the
Benediction and the singing of
Amens concluded the service.
Darlene thought had been stolen.
She thought she had discovered the
thief and retaliated. Later she found
the lost $50 and knew she had done
the wrong thing.
However, an exciting story
followed and the play ended
happily. The play's theme was
"Judge not that ye be not judged".
The audience and various players
returned upstairs. "Let there be
peace on Earth" was sung with
Lillian Hallam as pianist. Joyce
then led in prayer.
Business followed with the new
president, Joyce Bean in charge.
Ruth Jardin read the minutes of the
Silver Tops plan dinner
Phe Silver Tops pot luck dinner
will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16
at 12 noon at the Auburn
Community Hall.
The February meeting of the
Women's Institute will beheld at
the Community Hall on Thursday,
Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. (note change of
time) for dessert lunch. This is a
mystery meeting by Tena Empey
and Erma Cartwright.
Roll call will be "Bring a riddle
or a joke".
There were five tables in play at
the euchre party held at the
Walker bum Club meets
On the crisp winter day of Jan.
31 the Walkerbum Club met at
Betty Archambault's home at 2
p.m. Vera Penfound opened the
meeting with a thought provoking
poem "The Sunset of Life".
This was written by an elderly
gentleman. The Lord's Prayer was
repeated in unison.
Minutes were read by the
secretary and Ruth McClinchey
gave the treasurer's report. A liberal
donation to the club from the Daer
family for the late Roy Daer's
funeral lunch was received. A
number of thank you letters were
read. Collection was received and
the draw taken with Betty
Archambault being the lucky
winner. Roll call was answered by
a Christmas gift received.

quantity of wool for members for
knitting and gave a list of things

Grace was sung and the hostess
served a delicious lunch to bring an
enjoyable evening to a close.
Community Hall on Tuesday
evening, Feb. 1. Winners were:
high lady, Jane Giousher; low lady,
Hazel Watkins; men's high, Lloyd
Appleby; low man, Dennis
Penfound; novelty prize, Bernice
McClinchey.
Euchre is held every Tuesday
evening at 8 p.m.

Kay Lapp invited the club to her
home for the February meeting.
Ruth McClinchey and Shirley
Archambault will be program
convenors and Ethel Ball and Vera
Penfound in charge of lunch.
The 75 th anniversary of the club
will be in June and former
members will be invited. Vera then
read a letter from Mrs. Mary
Greerson (Fingland) written for a
former celebration. It gave a short
Walkerbum history.
The members then played UNO
which was enjoyed. Betty was the
high score and Kay was a low
scorer. Lunch was then served by
the hostess and Kay and a social
half hour brought the meeting to a
close.
Ushers at Londesboro United
Church on Sunday, Feb. 6 were
John Hoggart and Allen Bosman.
The sermon topic was "Snapshots
of our Faith".
The flowers on the piano were in
memory of Mary Longman.
In the announcements it was
Shuffleboard
Shuffleboard was held at Hullett
Public School on Wednesday, Feb.
2. Winners were: high lady, Helen
Dale and high man, Lome
Hunking. There were eight people
present.
The Londesboro UCW will be
tying a comforter at their meeting
on Monday, Feb. 14. Work will
begin at 1:15 p.m. Members are
reminded to not forget their
homework.
WI members are reminded about
the Card Cavalcade on Wednesday,
Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Each member is to
invite enough ladies for a table of
euchre. All proceeds are for the
Clinton Hospital Auxiliary.

The recent announcement of the Canada-Ontario Infrastructure
Program has made funding available for the municipality. This
meeting Is to determine how these dollars should be spent,
meeting the criteria as required by the two Governments.
