Bulls finish in 4th place For the first time since entering the Western Junior C league five years ago the Brussels Bulls are not a favourite to make it to the finals. After finishing the regular season Sunday with a 2-2 tie with Walkerton. The Bulls ended up in fourth place in the five team league. With 20 players on the bench for the first time in a month, the Bulls put up a better effort Sunday. However, Walkerton got on the board first with a goal off a faceoff with only three seconds left in the first period. Jonathan Lane evened it up in the second just after a Hawks penalty had expired. Walkerton made it 2-1 before the end of the second, but Peter Mulder evened the score 36 seconds into the third. Friday night, first place Mt. Forest beat the Bulls 7-1. It was a low- scoring, evenly-matched game, with exciting action at both ends. Blyth's goalie, Eric Jarrett faced 18 direct shots, and had a great deal of action near his crease area throughout the game. Both teams had opportunities to score, but just weren't able to capitalize. There were no goals until the third period, with Jarrett only allowing two shots to get past him. Unfortunately, Blyth was only able to retaliate with one goal, scored by Michael Bean unassisted. Bean carried the puck from his own zone into Mitchell's end, where he managed to poke the puck under the goalie and over the line. Blyth's Tyler Wilson, Micah Loder and Robbie Archambault did good jobs winning the face-offs and frequently drew the puck back to their defencemen Cole Stewart and Nicholas Courtney or Andrew Crusaders prepare for playoffs The WOAA Senior A hockey schedule went to its last game to determine final standings and playoff pairings for the 1993-94 season. The Brussels Crusaders travelled to Arthur last night and depending on the outcome finished in either third or fourth place. They will meet either Wiarton or Lakeshore in the opening round of playoffs. The game was originally awarded to the Tigers when despite the stormy weather and road conditions the WOAA ruled Brussels could have travelled to Arthur on Jan. 21. However public outcry from several of the senior A teams prompted the league to overturn their decision and order the game to be played. The Crusaders won both their games against Wiarton and despite the travel the Redmen would be their preferred playoff opponent. Brussels won and tied against the Lakeshore Winterhawks, who have lost only once in their last eight games played. Toll and Michael Bean. This allowed these players to pass to their forwards Shaun Henry and Justin Rinn or Kirk Stewart and Bradley Schmidt or Jeff Carter and Neil Salverda. All players attempted forward passing and rushing plays, however the larger ice surface, long shifts and quick aggressive plays by Mitchell, kept the Blyth players scrambling to control the puck in the neutral zone or clear the play from their own zone. This game was excellent preparation for Blyth as they gear- up for the playoffs against Wallace Township in Kurtzville, next week.
