Open for fun
It was a grand day for the official grand opening of the new
Blyth Sno-Travellers club house located west of Blyth on
Howson property. Organizers were pleased with the
turnout saying that some 200-300 snowmobile enthusiasts
from as far away as Michigan arrived to help break in the
new building. Formerly a portable classroom, it was carried
by tractor trailer to the new site in November. Cooking for
the visitors were from left: Brad Lewis, Mike Kerr, Brent
Brooks and Paul Kerr.
Short-handed Novices battle, lose 2 games
With many players ill or
recovering from the flu a short-
staffed Brussels Novice Rep team
played two tough teams last week.
Brussels travelled to Elma-Logan
Jan. 11 for a 7 p.m. game. Elma-
Logan scored the only goal of the
first period. They came out playing
hard in the second and scored three
more goals, before Brussels got on
the scoreboard. Nolan Krotz scored
an unassisted goal for Brussels.
Elma-Logan scored twice in the
third period for a final score of 6-1.
Stephen Township travelled to
Brussels on Jan. 14 for a 6:30
game. Brussels opened the scoring
in the first period with an
unassfsted goal by Krotz. Darrell
McClure put Brussels ahead by
two, scoring with an assist to Krotz.
Stephen came back to end the first
period 2 to 1, then tied it at two
apiece in the second. Stephen later
took the lead but Brussels scored
Fall guy
While clearing the puck from the Brussels end during the second period action of Sunday's
game, Bull's defensman Zack Smith goes for a tumble thanks to the stick of the opposing
Ironman player. The Wingham team steamrolled Brussels in a 6-0 trouncing.
Opponents
With no place to go in the
Western Junior C standings, the
Brussels Bulls put on a less than
spirited show this weekend in their
three games. The Bulls appeared
destined to finish fourth, setting up
a first round playoff matchup with
the fifth place Walkerton
Blackhawks.
Friday night, shortstaffed due to
injuries, suspensions and bad roads,
the Bulls were hammered by
Hanover 15-1. The Bulls broke the
shutout bid on a powerplay goal by
Nate Bender. The Bulls only had
13 skaters.
Saturday night, the Bulls showed
some flash at times against the first
place Mt. Forest Patriots, but came
out on the short end of a 7-1 score.
Darin Alviano, Ryan Robins and
Nate Bender tallied for Brussels.
The Wingham Ironmen capped
off the Bulls poor weekend, Sunday
afternoon handing Brussels a 6-0
setback.
The Bulls will wrap up their
regular season schedule this
weekend with two games. Friday
night the Bulls travel to Mt. Forest
for an 8:30 game and return home
