Family attends Hallahan infant’s baptism Matthew Hallahan, infant son of Kent and Julie of Belgrave was baptized Sunday, Jan. 9 at the Sacred Heart Parish in Wingham. Godparents were Brenda Hall of Waterloo and Paul Hallahan of Blyth. Grandparents attending the baptism were Ron and Ella Shaw, Wingham; Bill and Marguerite Hallahan of Blyth; as well as other friends and relatives who attended the 12:30 ceremony. Luncheon was followed at the home of Kent and Julie. On Jan. 8, John and Marie McIntosh had family and friends over for a tobogganing and snowmobiling party, after which Marie served a delicious hot lunch. Guests present included Jennifer Bolton of Sarnia, Erik and Deb Schouten of Kintore, Heather McIntosh, Paul McIntosh, Chris McIntosh, and Travis and Janet Koehler, Tamara and Derek, all of Belgrave. Visiting at the home of Heather McIntosh for a few days was Jennifer Bolton of Samia. "Mabel's Moms" met at the home of Mabel Wheeler on Wednesday morning. Present were Lila Procter and Ben; Donna Kellington and Brandon; Andrea Stevenson, Mathew and Tyler; Waneta Leishman and Melissa; Sherry Taylor and Brandon; and Janet Koehler and Derek with Trever Raynard. This week's topic was Guardianship of our children, a very difficult subject to think and talk about but also a very important one. Mabel served coffee and cookies and both the children and the moms had a nice hour socializing. On Monday, Jan. 10, the School and Community Association met at East Wawanosh Public School. A few of the objectives of this group are to establish an atmosphere of co-operation between the three partners in education; students, parents, and educators; to encour­ age and facilitate communication between home and school and to provide opportunities for advocacy of parental concerns for adult volunteers to work with students, for special projects to supplement classroom learning and for fundraising activities to support these projects. Steve Hamill of Holmesville, who is the past chairman of their parent support group, shared ideas and gave insight into what a group like this can achieve, and how it can benefit our most important resource, our children. Interesting move It was a different kind of faceoffs when these two players competed in the Blyth Oldtimers broomball tournament this past Saturday. Ten men's and two ladie's team took part in the event which raised funds for Junior Broomball. Belgrave • WE'RE YOUR R.R.S.P. HEADQUARTERS • A. Fenton leads UCW meeting The Afternoon Unit of the UCW met at the home of Edith Vincent, Jan. 20 with 10 ladies present. Audrey Fenton presided over the meeting. The worship was con­ ducted by Mary Taylor opening with a call to worship followed by the hymn "Take Time to be Holy", the meditation was concerning "Time" and our use of it Janis a Coultes was in charge of the Bible Study and it pertained to Matthew chapter 8, verses 23 to 27. Mrs. Fenton led in the Mission Study the theme being Missions into the 21st Century. The meeting closed with refreshments served by Mrs. Vincent. Voice for Life chapter meets The Wingham Voice For Life Board met for its first meeting of 1994 on Monday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. The president shared words of encouragement saying that perhaps 1994 will be the year when respect for life from conception to natural death, is the implant of the decade. She said members must not be discouraged. John Vaudrey led with prayer followed by the financial report. On Saturday, Feb. 5 a 'Chastity Workshop' will be held in Brampton. Its message will be 'Real Sexual Freedom means...waiting until marriage.' Two representatives from the Wingham board are planning to attend. 'Straight Talk' is also planning a 'chastity blitz' that will start in 1995 and run for three years. It will give young men and women the opportunity to take an oath to remain chaste until marriage. A date has not yet been set for the annual meeting but it will be some time in April. This year the chapter will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. 1994 is the International Year of the family. People play shoot, euchre Ten tables of euchre were in play Wednesday evening, Jan. 12 at the WI Hall, Belgrave. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Aileen Leddy; closest to 60, Mrs. Edythe Coultes; most zeros, Mrs. Dorothy Logan; most lone hands, Mrs. Marj Coultes; low lady, Mrs. Hilda Vincent; high man, Stuart Chamney; closest to 60, Stanley Black; most zeros, Bill Nethery; lone hands, Albert Cook; low man, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt (playing as a man). Thirteen tables were in play at the shoot party Friday afternoon, Jan. 14 at die Belgrave Community Centre. Winners were: high lady, Bob Grasby (playing as a woman); second high lady, Anne Thompson; most shoots, Muriel Grummett; low lady, Jean Deyell; high man, Sam Thompson; second high man, Bill Nethery; most shoots, Dennis Leddy; low man, Lloyd Montgomery.
