Second sight
With much said about linesman Max Demaray's poor eyesight, BIG eyeglasses and a guide
dog, Arthur, should have helped make his job easier during the entertaining game between
the Brussels Crusaders and the 1979-80 Intermediate Bulls on Saturday night. Many came
out to root for the teams despite the rather miserable weather that dropped in that evening.
Legion team goes bowling
Students do free throw
By Sandra Josling
On Saturday, Jan. 8 the Brussels
Legion participated in the Zone C-l
bowling held in Clinton. Two
teams competed for the Branch.
Members were Deb Trollope, Deb
Cann, Barb Fischer, Sue Mastnak,
Julie Harrison and Sandra Josling
(Team No. 1); Marvin Grimes,
Frank Stretton, Eric Ross, John
Harrison, Greg Wilson and Dave
Hastings (Team No. 2). The
bowlers had an early start on the
day as they began rolling with a
240 and the low lady bowler was

The fist meeting of the new year
was held on Jan. 12 for the
Majestic Women's Institute.
President Ruth Bauer opened the
meeting. A reminder that a survey
from FWIO is to be filled out by
each member and returned to the
Guelph office as soon as possible
was given.
A roll call was answered with
naming a dairy product you would
miss if the farmer ran away.
Business included the card party
on Feb. 1 with the committee
consisting of Yvonne Knight, Edna
McLellan, Jean Oldfield and Jane
DeVries. The second discussion
was to leave the membership fees
the same as last year. A quilt is to
be put in on Jan. 24 at Doris
McCall's. A gift is to be given to
the board director to take to the
FWIC convention in Truro, Nova
Scotia in June.
The nominating committee for
the District needs the positions of
assistant secretary-treasurer,
Tweedsmuir and resolutions filled.
Ruth Sauve spoke on the motto,
"keep pint-sized people off man-
sized machinery". A number of
farm accidents involve children,
who may not have proper control of
machinery. Accidents, although
they do involve children, also
include adults who may through
carelessness get injured. Older
machinery may not have the safety
equipment of the more modern
ones but an accident can occur with
either.
Marie McTaggart spoke on
farming.
Melody White showed a display
of everyday products that all
include soya beans. She ended with
Deb Trollope with a 65. The men's
high roll was a 256 by Marvin
Grimes and the low score was tied
between Frank Stretton and John
Harrison with a 142. Both teams
had a fun day and left a lot of room
for improvement for next year.
Mitchell branch was the overall
winner for the day.
Results of the euchre held on Jan.
5 are as follows: high scores, Iona
McLean and Bill Little; low scores,
Ross Brighton and Vema Tunney;
most lone hands, Al Coddington
and Erma Brighton; most zeros,
inviting members to a 4-H meeting
on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Brussels
library.
Ruth Sauvd showed a sweatshirt
she had decorated in a new method.
A motion to pay the bills was
made. It was also decided to give a
donation to the Adelaide Hoodless
Home and Erland Lee Home.
The meeting closed with singing
Happy Birthday to members. The
next meeting will be held on Feb. 9
at 2 p.m. in the Brussels library.
