Area families gather during Christmas season Mr. and Mrs. George Michie spent Christmas week with Dr. and Mrs. Don Whitfield, Jeff and Jenny of Sault Ste. Marie. Dr. Ronald Taylor of St. John's, Newfoundland spent the Christmas holidays with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor and other members of the family. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor had a family get-together on Christmas day at the Belgrave Community Centre. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor and family of Ripley, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Dusky and family of New Hamburg, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Keller and family of RR 1, Belgrave, Mark and Dianne Taylor and baby Emily of Dublin, Dr. Ronald Taylor of St. John's, Newfoundland and Trudy Taylor of London. Winners of the Belgrave Kinsmen Calendar draw on New Year's Day were: $500, Wayne Horton, RR 1, Clifford and $500, Cindy Cole and Garrett Vincent of Kitchener. Douglas Bieman of Kincardine spent Wednesday afternoon with his mother Mrs. Agnes Bieman. Visiting with Mrs. Sybil Straker over the Christmas holidays was her daughter Gail Aylestock who brought her paternal grandfather and his wife, Lloyd and Vi Aylestock, all of Toronto. Also arriving on Friday were her son Douglas and his wife Denise and their children, Joanna, Cara, Priscilla, Erica, Angela, Jessica and baby Tyrone, all of Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby and Mrs. Laura Johnston spent a few day at Christmas time with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch, Jeff of London and Julie Leitch of Mission Texas, who was home for the holidays. Barbara Coultes of Toronto spent a couple of days at Christmas with her mother Mrs. Janisa Coultes. On Christmas Day they visited with the Walter Armes family of Egmondville. The Hanna family Christmas dinner was held on Sunday, Dec. 19 in the WI Hall, Belgrave. Those present were Wayne Minick, Janet, Jennifer and Josh of New Hamburg, Edwin Minick, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mayberry and Darryl, Londesboro; Marilyn Mayberry and her girlfriend, Kitchener; Mr. and Mrs. Eric Cook, Amanda, Natasha and Ashley, Blyth; Mr. and Mrs. Randy McLean, Bradley and Mark, Goderich; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hopper and Kendra, RR 4, Brussels; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Cook, Greg Cook, Carla and Marie, RR 1, Belgrave and Mrs. Eva McGill and Mrs. Ruby Hanna, both of Belgrave. On Christmas Day, Bob and Pat Cook of Shelburne, Jennifer Cook and friend Chris of Windsor, Earl and Martha Heywood of Wingham, Ruby Hanna of Belgrave and Eldon and Lorraine Cook of RR 1, Belgrave, enjoyed a Christmas dinner with Lewis and Verna Cook of Belgrave. Also visiting at the same home in the afternoon was Debbie Hopper, Carol, Heather and Kendra of RR 4, Brussels. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hanna of North Battleford on the birth of their baby daughter, Dec. 22 in Saskatoon Hospital weighing 7 lbs. 5 oz. Michelle Elizabeth is a great-granddaughter for Ruby Hanna. Christmas weekend visitors with Ross and Barbara Anderson were Richard and Anne Catherine Anderson, Daniel and Sarah of Goderich, Rick and Nancy Ball, Matthew and Alicia of Hanover, Rob and Doreen Roy, Christina and Emily of Peterborough, Doug and Sheila Cousins and Brandon of Guelph. On Monday, Dec. 27 all attended the Anderson family Christmas get- together at the home of Les and Donna Shaw. Others present were Brian and Carol Shaw, Mark and Graham of Kintore, Geoff and Sharon Viglianti, Stephanie and Michelle of London, Richard and Pam Gethke and Shawn of Goderich, Lloyd and Eleanor Anderson, Chris and Sandy Anderson, and Valerie, Ian and Laura Anderson, all of London. Mrs. Ruth Johnston accom­ panied Mr. and Mrs. Jim Armstrong and their grandchildren Brittany and Andrew to celebrate Christmas on Monday, Dec. 27 at the home of the former's sister-in- law, Mrs. Leila Johnston of Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. John McIntosh held Christmas for their family on Boxing Day in the Belgrave Arena Complex. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Breyley, Janel, Jillan and Robert Jr. of Ohio U.S.A., Mike McIntosh of Huntsville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McIntosh Jodi and Nicole of Walton, Mr. Mel Gateman of Markdale (brother of Mrs. John McIntosh) Mr. and Mrs. Travis Koehler, Tamara and Derek, Mrs. Laurie McIntosh, Jackie and Rodney and Heather McIntosh, all of Belgrave. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service was held in Knox United, Belgrave on Friday evening, Dec. 24 with a large attendance. Calvin- Brick and Knox United members assisted the minister Rev. Paul Boughton with the service. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lamont of London spent a few days at Christmas time with his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Lamont. On Monday they celebrated Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cottrill, Shawn, Chris and Matthew. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Griffin, Jonathon and Deanna of London held Christmas for the Walker family on Sunday, Dec. 19. Present were Bonnie Walker, Allan and Wilfred Walker, Doug Walker, Paul and Nicole, RR 1, Belgrave, Chris and Donna Palmer, Amanda and Kristen of RR 5, Wingham and Donald Walker and Luke of Exeter. Mrs. Cortes and daughter Gloria Cortes of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cortes, Amanda and Nicholas of Tavistock spent Christmas Day and were overnight guests with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar and Don. Mrs. Florence Coultes has moved from the nursing home in Fordwich to Huronlea in Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and Alicia of London spent the weekend Dec. 18 with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. Alicia remained for a few holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cottrill, Shawn, Chris and Matthew spent Christmas weekend with his mother Mrs. Elsie Cottrill of Tiverton. Mrs. Sharon Mitchell of Hanover and her mother Mrs. Hilda Vincent spent a few days at Christmas with Mrs. Vincent's daughter and son-in- law Mr. and Mrs. Jim Taff of London. Forty-two Brownies, Guides, Sparks and their leaders, Mrs. Barbara Pletch and Mrs. Carol Moran, Brownies, Mrs. Barbara Black, Guides, Mrs. Mary Vair, Sparks, along with several parents were carolling on Thursday evening in the village. After carolling at 17 homes they all met at the Belgrave Arena Complex and were served hot chocolate and cookies. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wattam, Amber and Trevor returned home from a holiday to Orlando, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Chester MacDonald, Miss Bernice Thompson of Goderich and Douglas Thompson of Toronto spent Christmas Day with the former's mother Mrs. Ruth Johnston. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby visited last week with her aunt Mrs. Hilda Roberts of Hiemstra Nursing Home, Listowel, who is 95 years of age. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Roberts of Listowel. A Happy New Year to everyone. After a pot luck dinner, the Muriel's family. New Year's visitors on Sunday Jan. 2 were Mr. an Mrs. Alan Babensee, Diane and Ben of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Don Stobo Major achievement Nancy Darlow (left) of RR 4 Wingham earned her 4-H award for completing 18 clubs. Katie Adams (right) received recognition for her first club at the Achievement Day held on Dec. 20 in Bluevale. Congratulating both girls is 4-H leader Sharon Darlow. The 4-H girls also held a draw that evening with Nancy Barrett of Wingham being the winner of a modge podge covered swan. Residents ring in the New Year The annual New Year's Eve Party was held in the Belgrave WI Hall on Dec. 31 with Mrs. and Mrs. Len Archambault and Mrs. and Mrs. Bill Coultes in charge. Ten games of euchre were played and prizes awarded. Winners were: high man, Ross Higgins; low man, Muriel Coultes, playing as a man; high lady, Louise Bosman; low lady, Edith Vincent; most lone hands, Les Shaw and Ruth Johnston. Les Shaw provided dancing music for the remainder of the evening with spot dance prizes going to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hunter, Wilma Higgins and Ruth Johnston, Donna Shaw and Lawrence Plaetzer. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Mitchell won the door prize. Auld Lang Syne was sung at midnight, balloons broken and a delicious pot luck lunch was enjoyed by all. Purchasing a vehicle is a big decision! Robert Campbell of Vancouver and his daughter Kelly who were visiting his brother Scott Campbell and family of RR 5, Wingham for the holidays, also attended the family gathering. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coultes celebrated the holiday season in their new home in Belgrave.
