The Rural Voice, 1998-08, Page 194 Grain Markets them right away. One would have to be an eternal bull to think of keeping any soys for the long term. FEEDGRAINS Western feed grain prices have held their value well given the lower corn prices. However, over the next few months the focus will be on Ontario grains. First of all, a Targe quantity of Ontario wheat crop has fallen in to the feed grade because of sprouting and this will surely replace some corn in feed rations. As well, the barley crop, especially in eastern Ontario looks pretty good and with elevators paying $105 to $110 it seems to be over -priced relative to corn offering an opportunity to sell a portion of your crop. Milling quality oats are selling for about $130/mt. Grain prices have been volatile with a weather carrot dangling in front of sellers for the past few weeks. Yes, there may still be some extreme heat, but weathermen can't agree on this point. Look past the short term and I think you will see relatively good crops in the making. The critical pollination period for corn is almost over and there has been no severe heat or drought in the corn belt yet. If wheat yields are any indication of potential yields of corn and soybeans, we should see above average production this fall. The same can be said about the corn crop in Ontario. We have more acres and yields should be good given the heat and moisture most areas of the province have had. If we see large crops in the U.S., prices will likely fall to a point that creates demand and those levels could be well below today's prices. Some think December corn futures could drop to the $2.10 area and November soybeans to about $5.25. What this tells us is, if producers have grain that must move at harvest time, it needs to be forward contracted soon before the market (especially corn) drops to export levels. Any strength in the futures market will be an opportunity to sell and producers should take advantage of it.0 Information supplied by Dave Gordon, LAC, Inc., Ilyde Park, 519-473-9333. _Tractor it Combine Parts Huge Inventory of Late Model Tractor & Combine Parts NEW, USED & REMANUFACTURED water pumps, pressure plates, clutches, turbos, TA's, hyd. pumps call the 800-372-7149 PH same day experts 800-372-7150 FAX shipping IFawcett Tractor Supply Ltd., St. Marys, Ont.
