Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Aug. 23 were 1,422 cattle and 468 lambs and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold on an easier market. Choice steers and heifers sold $140 to $144 with sales to $149. Second cut steers and heifers sold $136 to $140. Cows sold steady. On Thursday veal sold on a good active trade at steady prices. Lambs and goats sold steady to higher. Sheep sold higher. On Friday calves and yearlings sold on a strong active trade at steady prices. Murray Wilson of Cargill, consigned two steers that averaged 1,560 lbs. and sold for an average price of $147.57. One black steer weighed 1,630 lbs. and sold for $149. Leonard and Andrew Black of Proton Station, consigned 12 steers that averaged 1,427 lbs. and sold for an average price of $144.03. Three black steers averaged 1,468 lbs. and sold for $146. Sidney B. Martin of Harriston, consigned eight heifers that averaged 1,376 lbs. and sold for an average price of $134.73. One charolais heifer weighed 1,395 lbs. and sold for $146. Greg McPherson of Teeswater, consigned four head that averaged 1,429 lbs. and sold for an average price of $138.58. Two black heifers averaged 1,458 lbs. and sold for $143. There were 200 cows on offer. Beef sold $80 to $90 with sales to $108.50; D1 and D2, $78 to $85 with sales to $89; D3, $73 to $77; D4, $65 to $72. RJ Wilson of Walkerton, consigned one charolais cow that weighed 1,550 lbs. and sold for $106.50. There were five bulls selling $101 to $133.50. Rolf E Huber of Tiverton, consigned one black bull that weighed 2,230 lbs. and sold for $133.50. There were 190 head of veal on offer. Good holsteins sold $110 to $118 with sales to $124; Sl heavy holsteins, $100 to $110; heavy holsteins, $90 to $100; medium holsteins, $95 to $108. Josh Bennewies of Bornholm, consigned four holstein steers that averaged 655 lbs. and sold for an average price of $109.99. One holstein steer weighed 655 lbs. and sold for $123. Lambs under 50 lbs. sold $252 to $260; 50 - 64 lbs., $232 to $255; 65 - 79 lbs., $233 to $260; 80 - 94 lbs., $214 to $262; 95 - 109 lbs., $223 to $233; 110 lbs. and over, $185 to $207. Sheep sold $90 to $150. Goats: billies sold $150 to $300; nannies, $90 to $175; kids: dairy, $150 to $240 and $270 to $330. Top quality stocker steers under 400 lbs. sold $252 to $265; 400 - 499 lbs., $252 to $267; 500 - 599 lbs., $223 to $264.50; 600 - 699 lbs., $217 to $234.50; 700 - 799 lbs., $191 to $205; 800 - 899 lbs., $190 to $195; 900 - 999 lbs., $181 to $187.50; 1,000 lbs. and over, $170 to $181. Top quality stocker heifers 300 - 399 lbs. sold $184 to $190; 400 - 499 lbs., $186 to $203; 500 - 599 lbs., $176 to $190; 600 - 699 lbs., $178 to $190; 700 - 799 lbs., $174 to $190.50; 800 - 899 lbs., $173 to $178; 900 lbs. and over, $155 to $166.50. Allan Aitcheson of New Liskeard, consigned 29 steers that averaged 833 lbs. and sold for an average price of $194.14. Eleven steers averaged 839 lbs. and sold for an average price of $195.
