Just shy of a year ago Kyle and Brett’s grandfather, James Robert McGee of Morris-Turnberry, was killed in a farming accident on the family farm. The incident occured when when people were visiting the farm for camping and Kyle and Brett’s parents said that, instead of mourning the incident a year later, the family invited people to camp at the family farm and put a focus on fun and good memories. After a weekend of welcoming friends and family to camp at the farm, Kyle and Brett collected 2,000 empty cans which they turned into $410, thanks to a few cash donations. Earlier this month, Kyle and Brett visited the Fire Department of North Huron’s Wingham hall during practice to present a cheque with the proceeds of their collecting. To say thank you, FDNH Deputy- Chief Chad Kregar presented the boys with FDNH shirts and children’s firefighters hats, then took them on a tour of the apparatus bay including several fire trucks. We have had a good summer with the weather sunny and hot for the most of it. We look forward to fall being long with plenty of good weather so the farmers can get their crops off. We know that fall is coming when the orange berries are on the Mountain Ash trees. Another sign of fall is the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association annual reunion, which this year is on Sept. 6-8 and the kids are getting ready to go back to school. Some are happy about it and some not so happy. Some are just starting junior kindergarten while others are starting their first time living away from home in college and university. Broken Washer? Blyth Laundromat 191 Westmoreland St., Blyth 519-523-9687 NEWS FROM BLYTH By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 From Marilyn’s Desk Giving back The Fire Department of North Huron’s Wingham hall welcomed some special guests earlier this month when Kyle and Brett McGee, front, donated $410 to the hall. The money came from collecting empty cans after a camping celebration was held at their family farm nearly a year after firefighters responded to the farm when the boys’ grandfather was kicked by a horse and died from complications related to the incident. (Denny Scott photo) Guest speaker Rev. Kai welcomed Greeting and ushering worshippers at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Aug. 25 were Lavern Clark and Marilyn Craig. Marilyn Scott was at the piano, Katie Dockstader, choir director and Lavern Clark ran the Power Point. Rev. David Kai was guest speaker and welcomed everyone to church. He drew everyone’s attention to the announcements printed in the bulletin. Rev. Kai lit the Christ candle and the other candles on the altar table. The call to worship was said in unison. The first hymn, “Joy Came with the Dawn”, was sung followed by the opening prayer said in unison. For the children’s story, Rev. Kai had 10 different items on a tray and he let everyone have a look to see what was there. He asked everyone to name the 10 articles. He said that we were very good witnesses as together we named all 10. Jesus’ Disciples were His good witnesses, they paid attention to what He said and did. The children’s hymn, “I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry”, was sung. The scripture reading was from Luke 24:36b-48. The choir sang the anthem, “Take Time to Be Holy”, under the direction of Katie Dockstader. In the scriptures, Jesus tells His Disciples that they are His witnesses. A witness tells the true story of what he heard and saw. We are all witnesses for Jesus and our faith. Many of us are shy about saying grace in a restaurant. Witnessing our faith is an effective way to bring back people to the church. Today we are called to be witnesses and that Jesus is still with us. We will speak the truth and show it by living it. The next hymn, “A Light is Gleaming”, was sung. The offering was received followed by the offertory response, “What Can I Do?”, the offertory prayer, the prayers for the people, silent prayers and the singing of the Lord’s Prayer. The singing of the last hymn, “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus”, was followed by the commissioning and benediction and the singing of the response, “Wherever You May Go”. Everyone was invited for coffee and fellowship. Passing the torch Westfield-area Huron County Plowing Match Princess contestant Grace Hallahan captured the crown during the match’s Junior Day last Thursday.
