Morrison reflects on year of growth as ambassador Outgoing Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador Amanda Morrison has now completed her year of duties in the position, after attending the provincial competition at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) over the weekend. Morrison said she had a great time at the annual competition, learning plenty from several seminars and making new friends from across Ontario. She also said it’s amazing to look back and realize how far she’s come in the last 12 months. Her weekend started very early as she boarded a limousine at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre at 5:30 a.m. destined for Toronto. The car then went around the area, picking up other ambassadors from communities around Huron County as they began the drive to Toronto. After some ice-breaking activities in her group, Morrison said the ambassadors attended seminars to teach them about improving their communication and public speaking skills. She also learned how to develop an “elevator pitch” selling herself as an ideal job candidate in one of the seminars. The concept behind an elevator pitch is that you find yourself in an elevator with someone who could help you land your dream job. You have the time it takes to ride in the elevator to “pitch” this person on you and try to impress them. Morrison attended the seminars, as well as extensive tours of the CNE grounds and formal dinners for all of the contestants before the competition, which took place on Sunday. She said the competition really opened her eyes and it made her realize how far she’s come in recent months. Thinking back to when she first presented her speech at the Brussels Legion, aiming to become the ambassador, Morrison says she’s grown so much in the 12 months that have followed. “I feel pretty good about that,” she said.
