Hot lunch set for Sept. 4

Last Friday, the van Hittersum family invited members of the public to the grand opening of
their Rolling Lands Farms on Westfield Road. Two tunnel ventilated dairy barns were on full

Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Aug.
16 were 1,527 cattle and 432 lambs
and goats.
On Tuesday fed steers and heifers
sold on an active trade at barely
steady prices. Choice steers and
heifers sold $143 to $146 with sales
to $151. Second cut steers and
heifers sold $140 to $143. Cows sold
on an easier market.
On Thursday veal sold on a very
active trade at prices slightly higher
than before the holiday. Lambs,
sheep and goats all sold lower due to
last week’s holiday. On Friday
calves sold on a steady market and
yearlings sold on an easier market.
Noah M. Martin of Fordwich,
consigned 12 steers that averaged
1,511 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $137.40. Two red steers
averaged 1,580 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $151. Greg
McPherson of Teeswater, consigned
four steers that averaged 1,724 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$147.17. Two gold steers averaged
1,770 lbs. and sold for $150.
Steve Lobsinger of Palmerston,
consigned three head that averaged
1,318 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $142.19. Two red heifers
averaged 1,263 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $144.
There were 275 cows on offer.
Beef sold $85 to $95 with sales
to $107; D1 and D2, $77 to $82
with sales to $89.50; D3, $68 to
$74; D4, $63 to $67. Randy
Ernest of Elmwood, consigned
one limousin cow that weighed
1,455 lbs. and sold for $107.
There were 16 bulls selling $89 to
$123. Jacob D. Miller of Lucknow,
consigned one charolais bull that
weighed 1,500 lbs. and sold for
$123.
There were 130 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $165 to $188; good
holsteins, $110 to $116 with sales to
$119; Sl heavy holsteins, $90 to
$105; heavy holsteins, $90 to $100;
medium holsteins, $90 to $102;
plain holsteins, $75 to $85.
Rufus Kuepfer of Chesley,
consigned four holstein steers that
averaged 791 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $106.42. One
holstein steer weighed 690 lbs. and
sold for $119. Vanderneut Farms of
Mount Forest, consigned four head
that averaged 731 lbs. and sold for
an average price of $105.88. One
holstein steer weighed 680 lbs. and
sold for $117.
Lambs under 50 lbs. sold $216 to
$222; 50 - 64 lbs., $196 to $235; 65
- 79 lbs., $201 to $236; 80 - 94 lbs.,
$196 to $221; 95 - 109 lbs., $204 to
$216; 110 lbs. and over, $209 to
$212.
Sheep sold $119 to $178.
Goats: billies sold $150 to $350;
nannies, $100 to $175; kids, $200 to
$250. Shepherd Creek Farms of
Staffa, consigned 33 lambs that
averaged 104 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $212.

400 lbs. sold $241 to $263; 400 -
499 lbs., $225 to $264; 500 - 599
lbs., $218 to $239.50; 600 - 699 lbs.,
$202 to $229.50; 700 - 799 lbs.,
$181 to $208; 800 - 899 lbs., $177 to
$194; 900 - 999 lbs., $178 to $186;
1,000 lbs. and over, $172 to $178.50.

599 lbs., $199 to $205.75; 600 - 699
lbs., $177 to $198.50; 700 - 799 lbs.,

Lucknow, consigned 39 head. Seven
charolais steers averaged 674 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$229.50. Tim Allison of Markdale,
consigned 51 steers that averaged
940 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $179.51. Seven charolais
steers averaged 934 lbs. and sold for
an average price of $185. Robert
Graham of Lanark, consigned 24
head that averaged 824 lbs. and sold
for an average price of $174.88. Five
charolais steers averaged 804 lbs.
and sold for an average price of
$194. Four charolais heifers
averaged 900 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $170.
The community extends sincere

Nethery, who passed away on July
26.

lunch was enjoyed by several diners
at the Belgrave Community Centre.
Sausage on a bun, delicious salads
with pineapple upside down cake,
iced tea and coffee finished the meal.
Everyone aways likes to visit and
enjoys each other’s company.
The next hot lunch is on
Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 11:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
On Wednesday, Aug. 21 there is an
official board meeting at 7:30 p.m. in
the church basement at Knox United
Church. Everyone is welcome.
On Sunday, Aug. 25 Knox United
Church service is at the Nature
Centre at 10 a.m. Everyone is
welcome.
Knox UCW is meeting at Sheila
Nixon’s home on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at
7:30 p.m. Special guest is Marion
Schefter speaking on “Pillow
Talk”.
