Preschool $1.00, School age $2.00, Adult $3.00 Sponsored by the Brussels Lions Club On Saturday, Aug. 10, three young Brussels residents will be vying for the title of Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador, with one earning the right to represent the village for 2019/2020. The Ambassador program begins at 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 when the doors to the Brussels Legion open to the public. The on-stage portion of the night begins at 7:30 p.m. The Junior and Little Ambassador titles will be handed out early in the evening, with the Fall Fair Ambassador being named later into the night. The first young woman who put her name forward is Megan Exel, the daughter of Brenda and Gerald Exel of Brussels. Megan will be entering Grade 12 this fall and her plan is to eventually take a fifth year of high school before deciding on her life’s path. A past-president of the Brussels Leo Club, Megan also frequently helps the Brussels Lions Club when it hosts events. Megan says she enjoys music and is part of her high school band. She hopes to eventually attend college and earn a degree in Funeral Directory. The second participant is Sean Mitchell of Walton. The son of Neil and Marie Mitchell, Sean is also a past- president of the Brussels Leo Club. He is currently serving as the Youth Chair of the Huron-Bruce Federal Liberals. In that capacity, he also acts as youth advisor to Huron- Bruce federal Liberal candidate Allan Thompson. He also serves on the Ontario Agricultural College Student Federation’s executive. A former Brussels Public and Central Huron Secondary School student, Sean is now at the University of Guelph in the Ontario Agricultural College pursuing a degree in Environmental Science with a major in Environmental Economics. Sean volunteers with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation’s Activate program in Guelph. He has a passion for music and has played the violin since he was four. With an interest in farming, Sean regularly contributes to his family’s cash crop farm near Walton. Sean had the distinct honour of earning the Chancellor’s Scholarship at the University of Guelph, allowing him to pursue a field of research. It’s been a nice break from being busy. Our condolences to Deb Cann and the Jacklin family on the passing of Gord Jacklin. Gord had been a member of the Branch for many years and enjoyed playing darts in the Thursday night dart league. Our sympathies to all.
