Bibeau, Thompson greet supporters in Brussels
Continued from page 1
before Bibeau addressed those in
attendance.
She addressed a number of the
Liberal Party’s initiatives in recent
years and spoke about the positive
strides being taken in agricultural
and international trade.
In an interview with The Citizen,
Bibeau compared her Quebec riding
to Huron County. She said there is a
city centre of Sherbrooke in her
riding about the size of London but
that the majority of the riding is
agricultural, with a large focus on
dairy producers. As a result,
she said she felt she could
really connect with the farmers of
Huron and Bruce Counties and
beyond.
“Someone told me this morning
that the [Huron-Bruce] region is the
kitchen of Canada and I thought it
was a great way to illustrate the
reality here,” she said. “Having so
much high-quality land and being
involved in so much production and
processing is impressive.” Bibeau
also lauded Huron’s agricultural
output and diversification.
Huron and Bruce Counties were
just one day of stops along a
whirlwind Ontario tour for Bibeau
and her team to try and understand
the issues facing Ontario
farmers that the federal government
may be able to help with, she said.
She said that connecting with
farmers, processors and other
agricultural professionals in their
home communities, farms and
businesses is crucial to
understanding their lives and how
the government can help them.
“To me it’s very important to come
and meet with people in their own
environment. As Minister of
International Development for three
and a half years and now Minister of
Agriculture for four months, I know
a lot about supply management
because there are a lot of dairy farms
in my riding,” Bibeau said. “There is
a lot to learn and I think I’m a fast
learner, but the best way for me to
learn and understand is to meet with
producers and ideally not in a
conference room, but meet at their
farms and processing plants. It’s the
best way for me to really get a better
sense of their issues and to be even
more convinced in the sense that I
can better advocate in my sector.
“Once you’ve seen their reality,
once you’ve met with them in their
own environment, you get it and you
retain the information and it registers
in your mind and in your heart.”
Thompson, who spent some time
with Bibeau during her visit and then
at the Four Winds Barn that night,
said he felt it was a very big deal to
have a federal Minister of
Agriculture in Huron County. Past
Liberal Ministers of Agriculture and
Food and local MPs Jack Riddell
and Carol Mitchell were also both in
attendance that night.
Thompson said that he felt the
visit was important because
agriculture is not just a way of
business in Huron and Bruce
Counties, but a way of life.
Agriculture, he said, influences
lifestyles and many aspects of life in
southwestern Ontario, not just how
families put food on the table.
For the Liberal Party of Canada to
send such an important cabinet
minister to Huron-Bruce, Thompson
said, shows that the Liberal Party
cares about the riding and feels it’s
one that could vote for both
Thompson and Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau’s Liberals in this
October’s election.
Personally, Thompson said he was
very inspired and impressed with
Bibeau and how she was able to
connect with Huron and Bruce
County residents during her short
time in the area.
There can be no true progress in vital and
practical godliness without it!
(Arthur Pink, 1886-1952)
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose
leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” Psalm 1: 2-3
Meditation upon the Word of God is one of the most important of all the means of grace
and growth in spirituality. There can be no true progress in vital and pratical
godliness without it!Meditation on Divine things is not optional but obligatory, for it
is something which God has commanded us to attend unto.
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous
and successful!” Joshua 1: 8
Spurgeon:To get the nourishment out of a text, turn it over and over in your mind,
meditate upon it, pull it to pieces word by word! Scripture meditation is the strong meat
on which holy men are nourished. Oh, to be bathed in a text of Scripture, and to let it
be sucked up into your very soul, until it saturates your heart! The more you read the
Bible, and the more you meditate on it – the more you will be astonished with it!

Vandals target GART, G2G
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers are seeking
assistance from the public to help
identify those responsible for a
series of ongoing mischiefs and
thefts to the recreational trail
known as the GART (Goderich to
Auburn Rail Trail). The GART is a
portion of the larger Goderich-to-
Guelph (G2G) Rail Trail that is
managed by the Maitland Trail
Association.
This popular trail is heavily
used by walkers, runners, cyclists,
hikers and skiers. Due to
safety, environmental and other
reasons, motorized vehicles such
as dirt bikes and All-Terrain
Vehicles (ATVs) are strictly
prohibited.
Over the last year, vandals have
caused extensive damage to various
entrance points onto the trail. Large
cinder blocks and posts have been
tampered with and pushed off to the
side. In other cases they have been
completely removed. Four large
green gates have also been stolen.
OPP assume the removal of the
barriers is done in an effort to gain
access onto the trails by motorized
vehicle operators.
This ongoing damage to the trail
and access points is now
estimated to have cost thousands of
dollars.
Huron County OPP reminds
everyone to be respectful of the Trail
Users Code. Failing to do so may
result in charges under the Trespass
to Property Act and/or the Criminal
Code.
Any person with information
regarding these incidents should
immediately contact Huron OPP
at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-
8314.
Should you wish to remain
anonymous, you may call Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477),
where you may be eligible to receive
a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Looking to the future
Huron-Bruce federal Liberal candidate Allan Thompson, right, believes that the Liberal Party
of Canada sending Marie-Claude Bibeau, MP of Compton-Stanstead, Quebec and federal
Minister of Agriculture, to Huron County shows that the Liberal party thinks the Huron-Bruce
riding is one that could vote Liberal in the October federal election. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
