A two-year-old child has been
injured and a 30-year-old from
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is
facing criminal charges as a result of
an impaired driving incident that
took place on July 9 in Auburn.
At around 7:30 p.m. that night,
Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) and Huron County
Paramedic Services responded to a
residence in Auburn to assist an
injured child. Paramedics and police
officers arrived on scene where they
assisted a two-year-old that had
sustained significant injuries.
The child was assessed and
ultimately transported to hospital for
treatment of serious, but non-life-
threatening injuries.
The investigation into the child’s
injuries revealed the accused had
been driving a passenger van in
Auburn with several passengers
when the child fell out of the
moving van through the rear hatch
onto the roadway.
Further investigation revealed the
driver of the van had consumed
some alcohol, thus a roadside
screening test was conducted. The
driver complied with the test and her
test resulted in a fail. She was
immediately arrested for Operation
While Impaired - Blood Alcohol
Concentration 80 Plus.
The accused was transported to
the Huron OPP Detachment where
she provided two samples of her
breath; both were over the limit.
The woman has been charged with
Operation While Impaired – Blood
Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80
Plus and Impaired Operation of a
Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily
Harm. She was later released from
custody with a court date scheduled
for July 29, 2019 at the Ontario
Court of Justice – Goderich. Her
vehicle was impounded and her
driver’s licence has been suspended
for an automatic 90 days.
On Wednesday, July 24, the
Huron-Bruce Federal Liberal
Association is bringing Marie-
Claude Bibeau, Minister of
Agriculture and Compton-
Stanstead MP, to Brussels for a
special meet and greet.
The association has billed the
event as a free meet and greet with
Bibeau and Huron-Bruce federal
Liberal candidate Allan
Thompson. The event is set for the
Four Winds Barn and will run
from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
There will be light snacks and a
cash bar at the event. Admission is
free, though organizers are asking
those interesting in attending to
register at eventbrite.ca.
Bibeau is a first-term MP from
the Quebec riding of Compton-
Stanstead. In November, 2015, she
was sworn in as the Minister of
International Development and La
Francophonie, but now serves as
the Minister of Agriculture.
As a Minister, Bibeau has served
a number of terms for councils
associated with the World Bank
Group and the United Nations.

‘Sands-on’ activities
Huron Chapel in Auburn held its annual Vacation Bible
School last week, including plenty of indoor and outdoor
activities for students. Above, Shelby Boel, left, and Colton
McPherson enjoy a sand-based craft where they layer
different colours of sands in a jar to create a unique bauble
to take home. (Denny Scott photo)
