County receives funding
Six-String Music Fest returns to Seaforth
The headliner
The Blyth Outdoor Market opened for the first time Thursday night, welcoming a number of
vendors and some live music to the newly-poured cement pad next to the Blyth Pharmacy.
Lachlan Chow showed off her skills to those who visited the market. The market will be held
every Thursday evening throughout the summer. (Denny Scott photo)
The Tanner Steffler Foundation
was founded August, 2017 by John
and Heather Steffler after losing
their 19-year-old son to mental
health and substance use disorder.
Despite their best efforts, Tanner and
his family could not access services
that would support his treatment and
full recovery in a timely manner.
After Tanner’s death, others reached
out to John and Heather to share
their stories of struggle. The
foundation was developed as a
response to the overwhelming need
for mental health and addiction
services for youth in Huron County.
The annual Six-String Music Fest
is a fundraiser to generate funds that
will help implement mental health
and addiction initiatives within
Huron County for youth aged 12-24
and their families . The amateur stage
featuring local youth musicians
starts at 3 p.m. along with free
activities for all ages (rock climbing,
inflatables, face painting, henna,
hashtag colour wall, silent auction
and more).
New this year is a Trucks Against
Mental Illness truck and car show
and a 911 vehicle pull. For anyone
who would like to register a truck or
car or enter a team of six in the
vehicle pull, please call or text 519-
670-1940 and someone will be
happy to provide details.
While the youth musicians are still
rocking the stage, there will be a
Pineridge Chicken barbecue 5-7
p.m. (advance ticket required).
The evening concert (ticket
required) will consist of two feature
tribute bands, Crush - the ultimate
tribute to Bon Jovi and Simply
Queen as well as a live auction.
For those who would like to make
a weekend out of it, there is also on-
site, serviced camping available.

In 2018, the Six-String Music Fest
raised $60,000. This money helped
to fund a mental health and wellness
coach with a Masters of Social Work
who is employed by the school
board who provides full-time
counselling services at two
secondary schools within Huron
County. The long-term goal of the
Foundation is to build a sustainable
youth residential mental health and
addiction treatment and wellness
centre within Huron County.
Enjoy the music, enjoy the
activities, and enjoy being a part of
the movement!
Thanks to $70,000 in funding
from the provincial government and
the Ontario Business Improvement
Area Association, Huron County is
rolling out the Digital Main Street
project locally.
The provincial program is
designed to help small businesses
across Ontario improve their
adoption of technology and better
promote themselves online and
embrace the creation of an online
marketplace. It will provide
individual businesses a grant of up
to $2,500 to implement a digital
plan and to hire dedicated people on
contract for local BIAs.
Huron County Director of
Economic Development Cody
Joudry spoke to the program at
Huron County Council’s July 3
meeting, saying that all of Huron
County’s BIAs, with the exception
of the Seaforth BIA, were in favour
of being involved with the
application.
Joudry said about the program in
his report to council, that “BIAs and
small business enterprise centres or
municipalities (or the county) on
their behalf, can apply for up to
$10,000 for their area for a Digital
Main Street Squad. In addition,
these ‘areas’ could submit a joint
application (which is what Huron
County Economic Development has
done) to receive a larger grant.
These joint applications improve the
efficiency of the grant and ensure a
