characteristics rightly attributed to
Jehovah.
Serving someone this great is
worth it. Hebrews closes with
examples of heroes of faith who
didn’t give up because they saw
value in remaining faithful to him. If
he truly is the “radiance of God’s
glory and the exact representation of
his being”, then I want to be on his
side too!
Life is fragile. Our incomes are
fragile. Our health is fragile. Even
our minds are fragile. What is there
to rely on when these things
disappoint us?
In my experience, nothing can
surpass the peace that comes from
faith in Jesus Christ. He both
forgives my sin and promises to
help me through anything I
encounter.
“Be involved in missions through
service” was the theme of the spring
rally of the Maitland Presbyterial of
the WMS, hosted by Knox
Presbyterian Church in Kincardine
on Monday, May 27.
Judy Watt of Kincardine
welcomed all with prayer and song
on the theme of service and South
Kinloss WMS led the worship.
Ruth Dorey of Kincardine
introduced the guest speaker, Rev.
Ken Craig of Kincardine Baptist
Church, who spoke of his many
mission trips to Haiti to build houses
for needy families. There is a team
of volunteers from Kincardine who
try to go once a year to do this along
with raising $16,000 a year for the
supplies to build the house.
He showed a Power Point
presentation of several illustrations
of these trips from Kincardine and
said that $35 a month would send a
child to school. The students are all
taught by rote as they have no
textbooks or supplies, but all
students wear uniforms and are very
disciplined and respectful of their
teachers and elders. The children are
all given one meal a day and look
forward to the experience.
An honorary life membership was
presented to Barb Stuart of
Kincardine and the annual “in
memoriam” was led by Wingham.
Brussels WMS has announced
they are disbanding after 163 years.
Following roll call and closing
music and prayer, Belmore led in
Grace before enjoying refreshments
served by Kincardine and
Molesworth.
The Huron County Branch of
Ontario Ancestors: Ontario
Genealogical Society has made two
donations to the Huron Digitized
Newspaper Project. The first
donation of $955 was presented by
Brock Vodden in the memory of
Ontario Ancestors member, and Mr.
Vodden’s late wife, Janis Vodden.
The second donation of $5,000 was
presented by Huron County Branch
of Ontario Ancestors’ president Deb
McCauslan on behalf of the local
branch. Both donations were
presented to Huron County Cultural
Services Director and librarian Beth
Rumble, along with museum and
library staff.
The Huron County Branch of
Ontario Ancestors is an organization
that regularly utilizes digital
newspapers to promote, encourage
and foster the study of genealogy.
The Huron County Branch of
Ontario Ancestors Library collection
of books and family histories is
housed in the log cabin located at
the Huron County Museum. The
organization has produced many
publications, including the recent,
locally best selling book Out of the
Woods by David Yates.
The Digitized Newspaper Project
was undertaken by the Huron
County Library and Huron County
Museum to digitize more than a
century’s worth of historical Huron
County newspapers from across the
county and make them accessible to
anyone, anywhere, online for free.
Huron County Cultural Service
Director and County Librarian, Beth
Rumble says, “One of the goals of
both the Huron Country Library and
Museum is to gather, steward and
share our collective history and
knowledge for our communities. By
making our community histories
easily accessible, we are able to
contribute to many creative works
like the ones achieved by the
Ontario Ancestors group. We thank
the Huron County Branch of Ontario
Ancestors for their generous
donations and look forward to
furthering this important and
exciting project.”
If you would like to support the
Huron Digitized Newspaper Project,
you can make a donation in person
at the Huron County Museum
located at 110 North Street in
Goderich or by e-mailing
museum@huroncounty.ca for more
information. Tax receipts will be
issued upon request.
Donations over $250 will receive
a thank-you gift.
On May 25 in front of a
Courtyard fountain in Blyth,
surrounded by many friends,
Jeff and Cindy Norgate
became husband and wife.
The bride was escorted by
Mr. Don Scrimgeour. The
groom wore a handsome,
dark suit and tie with a fedora
hat. The bride, adorned with
pearls, wore a strapless,
above the knee length ivory
dress covered in lace with an
elegant chiffon cape. Jeff and
Cindy chose to write their
own vows. The ceremony
was officiated by Sherrie
Oliver.
After their first dance, a
reception party was enjoyed
by all. An English garden
theme with an assortment of
tea sandwiches, fruit, and
squares was served along
with a two-tier carrot cake.
To add a little Southern charm to the evening, Tennessee Caramel
whiskey was served along with lemonade and other cocktails. The
couple honeymooned in Niagara Falls and Toronto.
