Province invests $3.3 million in local healthcare
The good fight
Huron-Bruce MPP and Minister of Education Lisa Thompson was in her home riding last
Friday to announce $3.3 million in funding for local organizations to assist with mental health
initiatives and battle addiction. The funds are part of a 10-year plan that will see the provincial
government invest $3.3 billion into organizations with similar mandates. (Denny Scott photo)
Huron-Bruce MPP and Minister
of Education Lisa Thompson visited
the Huron Respite Network offices
in Clinton last week to announce
significant provincial funding for
mental health and addiction services
in her home riding.
In total, she announced that $3.3
million is to be funnelled into the
area, part of the $3.3 billion
investment the current provincial
government plans to invest in mental
health and addiction services over
the next 10 years.
She said that she hears, time and
again, about how people struggle
with mental health and addiction,
but are told they need to wait or seek
treatment outside their communities.
With the funding, that problem
should be lessened.
Thompson said that mental health
is a priority under the provincial
government, led by Premier Doug
Ford.
Organizations receiving funding
include:
• The Huron-Perth Centre for
Children and Youth – $93,917
• Family Services Perth-Huron –
$6,500
• Choices for Change – $325,000
• Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance
- $1,484,427
• The Canadian Mental Health
Association Huron-Perth – $194,916
• Community Living – Central
Huron – $6,500
• Grey-Bruce Health Services –

• Canadian Mental Health
Association Grey-Bruce – $105,371
• Keystone Child, Youth and
Family Services – $110,134
Representatives of several of the
organizations were on hand, and
provided details as to how the
funding would be used.
